This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom, +6 more countries.
• Develop and manage the Data API boundary with clean, versioned, and high-performance endpoints for internal dashboards, customer-facing features, and third-party applications.
• Design and enhance read models, indexes, and caching strategies in PostgreSQL as well as future OLAP stores.
• Create dependable integrations with Kotlin-based product backend services.
• Take responsibility for service reliability and performance, encompassing monitoring, incident response, and SLOs.
• Establish contracts between ingestion/aggregation systems and the serving database in collaboration with Data Engineers.
• Secure APIs utilizing industry-standard authentication and authorization protocols in conjunction with the Authorization team.
• Develop a near-real-time data aggregation service across Pleo services.
• Design capabilities for metadata, lineage, and governance.
• Manage access control and permission oversight, including row- and column-level access as well as audit trails.
• Report to the Senior Manager of Data & AI Products and work alongside Data Engineers, Product Managers, Staff Data Platform Engineering, GenAI Platform, and Data Infrastructure teams.
• Deliver the first production version of the Reporting API while establishing access control, tenant isolation, security, performance, reliability, and SLO benchmarks.
• Proven backend engineering experience in building and managing reporting and analytics API services and serving-layer infrastructure.
• Experience in owning API boundary layers, which includes endpoint design, versioning, contract stability, and safeguarding consumers from raw data sources.
• Strong expertise in read-heavy systems, relational database optimization, indexing, materialized views, caching, and API performance enhancement.
• Solid foundation in SQL and non-SQL databases along with strong SQL querying abilities.
• Extensive expertise in Kafka.
• Significant experience with a JVM-based language; Pleo’s product backend is based on Kotlin.
• Familiarity with AWS or GCP, specifically with Kubernetes.
• Knowledge in configuring, deploying, and managing containerized applications within a Kubernetes environment.
• Experience at the intersection of data systems and product backend services.
• Capability to operate swiftly and work autonomously in a hands-on delivery role.
• Experience in fintech, payments, or other regulated product settings.
• Proficiency in English is required for the application.
• Must be located in the selected country with a valid right to work.
