
Senior Backend Engineer – Backend Platform

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Develop backend platform functionalities utilized by four product teams.
• Enhance DevDawg cloud development environments for the entire application stack.
• Improve Spice automated code review and root-cause analysis tools, including safely approving additional pull requests.
• Create paved paths for the API layer, which encompasses REST blueprints, GraphQL schemas, OpenAPI, real-time capabilities, authentication, and permissions.
• Modernize backend and asynchronous computing frameworks, including pathways for migrating from Flask to FastAPI.
• Establish standards for production observability, metrics, alerting, and readiness.
• Develop shared backend services and foundational elements for event handling, event logs, database change safety, migrations, delegated access, auditability, internal administration, and support APIs.
• Set coding agent guardrails through static analysis, linting, hooks, and testing harnesses.
• Collaborate with the Infrastructure team, which manages AWS, Kubernetes, and data stores, while overseeing the application layer.
• Work closely with internal engineering users and may transition between teams as project needs evolve.
• Position available at Senior and Staff levels.
• Experienced Python engineer; Python is the primary backend programming language.
• Familiarity with Go, Rust, or TypeScript is advantageous.
• Experience delivering significant LLM-backed or agentic projects to real users.
• Utilizes coding agents in daily tasks and possesses a clear understanding of their advantages and limitations.
• Proficient in observability and production practices, including telemetry, metrics, tracing, alerting, and Sentry management.
• Skilled in designing and launching internet-facing APIs.
• Experienced in debugging production incidents and owning systems that impact customers.
• Familiar with being on-call for production systems.
• Builder-first mindset focused on swift adoption.
• Capable of working directly with internal engineering stakeholders.
• Must have legal authorization to work in the US; visa requirements must be clarified.
