Senior Backend Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, and manage backend services and APIs utilizing Node.js and TypeScript.

• Architect and enhance event-driven systems on Kafka, encompassing topic design, producers and consumers, stream processing, delivery guarantees, and managing back-pressure at scale.

• Take ownership of MongoDB data modeling and performance, which includes schema design, indexing, aggregation pipelines, replication, and query optimization.

• Create dependable and secure integrations with EHRs, healthcare data standards (FHIR and HL7), and third-party APIs.

• Facilitate AI agent workflows by providing fast, resilient backend services and real-time data pipelines.

• Enhance reliability and observability through monitoring, alerting, load testing, incident response, and postmortems.

• Manage PHI responsibly while adhering to HIPAA-grade security practices throughout services.

• Elevate engineering standards through the creation of design documents, conducting code reviews, and mentoring team members.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of backend engineering experience with clear senior-level responsibility for production systems.

• Proficient in Node.js and TypeScript with extensive experience in production settings.

• Practical experience in designing and managing Kafka-based event-driven architectures.

• Extensive MongoDB expertise at scale, including schema design, indexing strategies, and performance optimization.

• Proven track record of building and scaling systems in a high-growth or high-traffic organization.

• Strong fundamentals in API design.

• Consistent practices regarding testing, code quality, and documentation.

• Background in healthcare or health technology is highly preferred, including experience with EHR integrations, FHIR or HL7, HIPAA compliance, and PHI management.

• Experience in a high-scaling technology company where reliability and throughput were critical is strongly preferred.

• Familiarity with cloud infrastructure, preferably AWS, and knowledge of Docker and Kubernetes are advantageous.

• Experience with Redis or other caching and search layers is a plus.

• Exposure to LLM or AI product pipelines is desirable.

• Experience in early-stage startups and comfort with ambiguity is a bonus.
