Senior Backend Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, deliver, and take ownership of comprehensive product features utilized by thousands of developers and hundreds of millions of end-users.

• Define problems and take responsibility from problem identification through to production deployment and ongoing maintenance.

• Construct efficient, highly dependable backend systems that operate at a massive scale.

• Collaborate with the Product team on defining scope, prioritization, and deployment.

• Get acquainted with and enhance existing codebases.

• Release significant user-facing features, monitor their usage and adoption, and make iterative improvements.

• Write thoroughly tested code, systematically debug issues, engage in code reviews, and mentor fellow engineers.

• Participate in meetings with team members and a mentor during the onboarding process.

• Establish repositories, task management systems, development environments, dashboards, logging, debugging tools, cloud services, infrastructure, and architectural knowledge.

• Independently scope and execute projects from start to finish.

• Communicate directly with customers or support to gain insights on system usage and failures.

• Learn incident response procedures and participate in the on-call rotation.

• Contribute to reliability, quality, architecture, roadmap, and technical strategy.

• Become a subject-matter expert in key areas of team focus.

• Specify and design medium to large-scale projects, gather feedback, and drive design validation and deployment strategies.

• Provide mentorship to new engineers.

• Enhance organizational reliability, scalability, and performance.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 8 years of experience as a backend engineer designing intricate, rapidly scaling systems.

• Proficiency in crafting advanced SQL statements beyond basic SELECT and UPDATE queries.

• A strong commitment to quality and the ability to narrow scope while still delivering value.

• A customer-centric product mindset.

• Proven experience in scoping, prioritizing, and executing rollouts in collaboration with Product teams.

• Quick to familiarize with unfamiliar codebases and enhance them effectively.

• A tendency towards shipping and iterating on products.

• Excellent real-time and asynchronous communication skills.

• Demonstrated experience in releasing significant user-facing features to production, tracking usage and adoption, and refining them over time.

• Capability to write high-quality, well-tested code and methodically debug issues.

• Experience in providing constructive feedback and mentorship.

• Familiarity with Python is preferred.

• Experience with PostgreSQL is preferred.

• Background in building SDKs is preferred.

• Experience in shipping a mobile application with in-app purchases is preferred.

• Some familiarity with React and single-page applications is preferred.
