Senior Backend Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Armenia.

📋 Description

• Design, develop, and sustain clean, efficient, and scalable backend services using Node.js and TypeScript.

• Collaborate with product managers and frontend engineers to create new product features from conception to deployment.

• Take ownership of critical components of backend architecture and make decisions to enhance performance, reliability, and security.

• Write unit tests and perform code reviews.

• Identify opportunities for system enhancements and refactor legacy code.

• Provide mentorship to others and share engineering knowledge.

• Actively integrate AI into daily tasks and identify areas where AI can enhance processes.

• Tackle complex problems in a high-load, distributed system.

• Build and scale infrastructure capable of processing millions in donations.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 7 years of backend development experience, ideally in a product-focused environment.

• Strong practical experience with Node.js and modern frameworks like Koa or NestJS.

• In-depth knowledge of TypeScript, including advanced typing and module systems.

• Solid experience with MongoDB or other NoSQL databases.

• Familiarity with event-driven architecture utilizing Kafka, RabbitMQ, or Bull/Redis.

• Practical experience with ClickHouse or similar analytics databases and Elasticsearch.

• Strong grasp of system design, clean architecture principles, and performance optimization.

• Capability to work independently, take ownership, and see projects through to completion.

• Comfortable collaborating within a Russian-speaking team.

• Experience in using AI effectively in work and understanding its value-add.

• Previous remote-first distributed-team experience, knowledge of monitoring/observability tools, and interest in nonprofit technology are advantageous.
