Senior Backend Developer – Java/Spring Boot, Agentic LLMs

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Europe.

📋 Description

• Design and enhance a substantial Java backend that supports web applications, mobile experiences, and integrations with external systems.

• Execute reliable features from start to finish.

• Collaborate closely with product and engineering team members.

• Construct and sustain distributed services and asynchronous event processing.

• Utilize agentic LLM knowledge in practical Java development, including relevant integrations, retrieval, and automation.

• Engage in hands-on software engineering rather than focusing solely on AI research or architecture.

• Assume responsibility for code quality, testing, debugging, and complete delivery.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 6 years of practical experience in Java backend engineering, preferably with Java 17.

• Proficient in Spring Boot 2.x/3.x and Hibernate 5.x/6.x.

• Experience in building and maintaining scalable distributed systems.

• Familiarity with REST APIs and relational data models, specifically with PostgreSQL.

• Practical experience in event-driven development using Apache Kafka or similar messaging/streaming technologies.

• Strong understanding of functional programming principles, including immutability, pure functions, and concurrency-aware design.

• Hands-on knowledge of LLMs and agentic workflows, including RAG pipelines, agent/tool interactions, and LLM orchestration.

• Capability to discuss specific LLM implementations.

• Regular use of AI-assisted coding tools like Cursor, Claude Code, or GitHub Copilot.

• Good judgment regarding code quality and testing practices.

• Proficient with Git, Maven, testing, debugging, and ownership of end-to-end delivery.

• Fluent in professional English, minimum B2 level; C1 preferred.

• Preferred: experience with Model Context Protocol (MCP), autonomous agents, or multi-agent workflows.

• Preferred: knowledge of Scala, Kotlin, or functional Java libraries such as Vavr.

• Preferred: familiarity with Elasticsearch, vector search/embeddings, Redis, and performance optimization techniques.

• Preferred: experience with Docker, Kubernetes, AWS, Terraform, and CI/CD practices.

• Preferred: experience in integrating LLM-powered features into existing backend services.
