Senior Automation Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Spain, +4 more countries.

📋 Description

• Take full ownership of agreed outcomes by clarifying needs with engineering, Finance, or Security through to delivery and operation.

• Convert incomplete briefs into actionable results and feasible plans.

• Monitor cross-team dependencies, clarify trade-offs, identify blockers early, and communicate changes in estimates.

• Verify completion with users.

• Develop maintainable software along with cloud and infrastructure API integrations.

• Manage credentials, pagination, retries, partial failures, and repeated executions securely.

• Transform billing, usage, and inventory data into consistent outputs.

• Reconcile totals and time periods, implement allocation rules, and highlight missing or uncertain mappings.

• Enhance inventory, network policies, and capacity automation utilizing existing systems.

• Retain necessary human decisions and validate operational results.

• Implement changes via version-controlled code and continuous integration.

• Comprehend live states, test recovery processes, and ensure safe releases.

• Diagnose failures across code, Linux, APIs, data, and networking.

• Own monitoring, actionable alerts, documentation, and maintenance tasks.

• Utilize coding agents while being accountable for design, code, tests, and outcomes.

• Address alerts from owned systems during working hours; no conventional on-call rotation is required.

⛳️ Requirements

• Senior-level experience, generally 5+ years in software, infrastructure, platform, or automation engineering.

• Proficient in production Python, software design, testing, debugging, and API integration.

• Competence in understanding unfamiliar code and enhancing existing systems.

• Practical hands-on experience with AWS.

• Solid understanding of Linux and networking fundamentals, including diagnosis across hosts, services, networks, and cloud boundaries.

• Practical skills in SQL and data validation, including joins, units, periods, ownership mappings, and reconciliation.

• Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and Continuous Integration (CI), encompassing state, drift, idempotency, dependencies, and rollback, using tools like Terraform/OpenTofu and Ansible.

• Proven advanced coding-agent workflows for real engineering tasks.

• Ability to plan and delegate significant work, provide context, operate agents within specified permissions and stop conditions, and independently explain, debug, test, and verify their outputs.

• Self-sufficient delivery and effective collaboration.

• Proficiency in English at B2 level or higher for technical discussions, written decisions, and internal customer communication.

• Nice to have: experience with cloud billing or FinOps tools, AWS CUR/FOCUS, Athena, NetBox or similar, network policies, flow monitoring, identity and access management, capacity tools, additional cloud platforms, OpenNebula, Kubernetes, Go, or self-service systems.

• Ability to rapidly learn unfamiliar technologies, products, and internal business rules.
