Senior Android System Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Croatia.

📋 Description

• Design, test, and sustain high-performance code for interactive large-format displays and bedside television applications.

• Collaborate with hardware partners to implement device-level functionalities, privileged application permissions, and custom operating system integrations, including remote resets and log capture.

• Assess technical tradeoffs, such as Privileged App versus Device Owner strategies, and create prototypes to guide core roadmap decisions.

• Enhance UI responsiveness, layout efficiency, and real-time data synchronization across intricate touchscreens and digital display interfaces.

• Engage in sprint ceremonies and conduct peer code evaluations.

• Work in close partnership with product management and client engineering leads to execute on concurrent technical tracks.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of experience in developing production-level Android applications utilizing modern architectural patterns (MVVM/MVI, Jetpack, Coroutines, Flow).

• Practical experience with custom Android builds (AOSP), system applications, platform-signed certificates, or bespoke firmware configurations.

• Experience in implementing Privileged Apps, Device Owner setups, Device Policy Manager APIs, remote factory resets, and system-level log capture.

• Knowledge of Mobile Device Management (MDM) protocols and enterprise deployment processes for managed hardware fleets.

• Proven ability to interface directly with device OEMs/manufacturers to troubleshoot SDKs, system permissions, and hardware-software integration issues.

• A history of driving technical research initiatives, assessing low-level architectural tradeoffs, and providing clear recommendations to stakeholders.

• Strong grasp of REST architecture and object-oriented programming principles/design.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills for effective collaboration with cross-functional product and engineering teams.

• Legal authorization to work in the country of residence, with appropriate documentation verifying this authorization.

• Familiarity with clinical environments, EHR integrations, or healthcare compliance standards (HIPAA) is a plus.
