Senior Android Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Develop and take ownership of Sekai's native Android framework utilizing Kotlin, Android SDK, and contemporary Android architecture.

• Design and enhance the Android application shell, including navigation, lifecycle management, session handling, permissions, push notifications, deeplinks, and release workflows.

• Establish clean integration points for modules created in native Android, React Native, Flutter, or WebView.

• Collaborate with Product, Design, Backend, and Mobile engineers to deliver exceptional consumer mobile experiences.

• Enhance the reliability, responsiveness, maintainability, and production quality of the Android app across various real-world devices.

• Develop observability and debugging workflows for crashes, app health, release quality, and user-impacting issues.

• Define engineering patterns for native modules, cross-stack communication, hybrid screen ownership, testing, CI/CD, and rollout.

• Leverage modern AI development tools to accelerate progress while ensuring high engineering standards.

• Contribute to building Sekai, an AI-driven consumer platform for creating, remixing, sharing, and interacting with mini-app content.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of professional experience in Android engineering.

• Strong practical experience with Kotlin, Android SDK, and the development of production Android applications.

• Experience in building or managing significant components of a consumer-facing Android application.

• In-depth understanding of Android architecture, app lifecycle, navigation, concurrency, networking, persistence, dependency management, and modularization.

• Proven experience in creating high-quality mobile UI using Jetpack Compose and/or the traditional Android View system.

• Strong product sense with attention to mobile user experience, polish, responsiveness, and reliability.

• Capacity to make independent architectural decisions and clearly articulate technical trade-offs.

• A strong ownership mentality and the ability to manage projects from start to finish in a dynamic environment.

• Comfortable working closely with Product, Design, Backend, Mobile, and Growth teams.

• Preferred: experience in leading or assisting in the leadership of a team to develop a mobile app from inception to launch.

• Preferred: experience in a startup or rapidly growing consumer product environment.

• Preferred: familiarity with React Native, including native modules, bridges, or hybrid mobile architecture.

• Preferred: experience in integrating Flutter or WebView-based modules into native Android applications.

• Preferred: expertise in Android performance profiling, startup optimization, memory management, UI responsiveness, crash reduction, or app health monitoring.

• Preferred: experience with mobile observability and analytics tools such as Firebase Crashlytics, Sentry, Datadog, Amplitude, GA4, or similar platforms.

• Preferred: experience with feed-based, social, entertainment, creator, gaming, UGC, marketplace, or other high-engagement consumer products.

• Preferred: experience with Gradle, CI/CD, staged rollouts, Play Console, app signing, and release automation.

• Preferred: familiarity with iOS, TypeScript, React Native, Flutter, or web-based interactive content.

• Preferred: experience utilizing AI coding tools such as Cursor, Claude Code, Codex, or GitHub Copilot.

• Completion of required application questions, including visa sponsorship, resume submission, earliest start date, and production Android app experience.
