Senior AI Software Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Florida, +8 more states.

📋 Description

• Develop and sustain LLM-driven features, which encompass retrieval-augmented generation systems, structured prompt pipelines, and smart workflow automation tailored for clinical environments.

• Execute and refine evaluation frameworks to assess the accuracy, safety, and reliability of AI outputs in production.

• Oversee the monitoring of deployed models and engage in initiatives for quality enhancement.

• Create backend services using Python or TypeScript that expose AI capabilities via REST, GraphQL APIs, and WebSockets.

• Assist in the design of AI infrastructure, deployment automation, and operational tools.

• Ensure compliance with HIPAA standards and the proper management of protected health information.

• Normalize software quality assurance processes.

• Manage testing and debugging efforts, and develop solutions.

• Investigate complaints and address intricate software-related challenges.

• Engage in architecture discussions, code reviews, and technical design meetings.

• Contribute to establishing and maintaining engineering standards within a new, expanding team.

• Make autonomous technical decisions regarding project components.

⛳️ Requirements

• B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).

• Over 5 years of software engineering experience, including at least 2 years in developing production AI/ML systems.

• Practical experience with large language models and orchestration frameworks such as LangChain or LlamaIndex.

• Strong proficiency in Python, TypeScript, and ML libraries like Hugging Face, PyTorch, or scikit-learn.

• Background in creating REST or GraphQL APIs that serve AI/ML model outputs.

• Knowledge of retrieval-augmented generation pipeline design and vector databases.

• Experience in constructing custom LLM and agent evaluations, including automated testing of model outputs, agent paths, and failure modes.

• Understanding of HIPAA regulations and secure handling of sensitive health information.

• Capability to work independently with sound judgment in a greenfield, ambiguous setting.

• Hands-on experience with AI-assisted development tools and LLM coding frameworks like Claude Code, Pi Agent, Cursor, or Codex.

• Experience in fine-tuning or systematically assessing foundation models.

• Familiarity with multi-agent AI architectures, agent orchestration frameworks, and sandboxed code execution environments.

• Exposure to clinical data, EHR systems, FHIR standards, or healthcare AI applications.

• Familiarity with TypeScript and Next.js.

• Experience in a 0-to-1 product development or early-stage engineering context.

• Understanding of Humana's enterprise AI governance and responsible AI initiatives.

• Must reside near one of Humana's designated IT locations.
