Senior AI Product Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Algeria, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Take full ownership of the Smeetz MCP server and AI chatbot from start to finish, encompassing the tool interface, agent behavior, and safety measures.

• Conduct discovery sessions with venue operators to establish priorities, draft specifications, implement production updates, and evaluate results.

• Ensure reliability and performance metrics, including latency, error rates, and client call patterns.

• Develop an evaluation framework to assess prompt and model modifications prior to deployment.

• Create documentation for the AI surfaces you manage for future engineering teams.

• Enhance the shared Claude Code skill library to boost AI-native engineering efficiency.

• Engage with venues utilizing the AI surfaces and observe production behavior.

• Report directly to the VP of Engineering and operate independently without direct reports.

⛳️ Requirements

• At least 5 years of experience in shipping production code, including ownership of at least one system with on-call responsibilities.

• A minimum of 2 years experience building LLM features that have been utilized by real users.

• Proficiency in tool calling, structured outputs, evaluations, cost management, latency control, and addressing production failure modes.

• Proven expertise in an AI-native software development lifecycle (SDLC).

• Regular use of Claude Code or a similar agentic environment.

• Capability to develop skills, hooks, and automations while showcasing what has been automated and replaced.

• Experience in designing APIs or tool interfaces for agents, including naming conventions, granularity, and recoverable error messages.

• Experience in independently conducting discovery sessions, leading customer discussions, drafting specifications, and defining measurable success indicators.

• Proficient in English.

• Preferred: Familiarity with Langfuse or other LLM observability tools like LangSmith, Braintrust, or Phoenix.

• Preferred: Knowledge of MCP specifications.

• Preferred: Experience with the Anthropic Claude API and tool usage.

• Preferred: Knowledge of retrieval and evaluations over a support knowledge base; experience with Intercom Fin.

• Preferred: Understanding of agent guardrails for write access, including permissions, confirmation steps, prompt injection, and personally identifiable information (PII).

• Preferred: Proficiency in French or German.
