
Senior Accounting Manager, Insurance

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +1 more state.
β’ Supervise monthly premiums, claims, settlements, and both internal and external reporting for all insurance products.
β’ Take ownership of designated insurance-related areas from start to finish, ensuring precise and prompt financial reporting.
β’ Deliver accounting leadership and specialized knowledge for revenue, premiums, commissions, claims, reserves, carrier or partner activities, and associated balance sheet accounts.
β’ Engage in monthly, quarterly, and annual closing processes, which include journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, and financial results.
β’ Examine complex or atypical transactions and ascertain suitable accounting treatment with minimal supervision.
β’ Review financial outcomes and account activities to detect inconsistencies, trends, errors, and areas that require investigation.
β’ Investigate accounting issues, propose solutions, and drive matters to resolution.
β’ Support international accounting functions, including foreign subsidiaries, intercompany transactions, foreign currency issues, and local reporting obligations.
β’ Assist with external audits by providing documentation, schedules, and accounting support.
β’ Collaborate with senior management on technical accounting issues, financial reporting, process enhancements, and special initiatives.
β’ Offer guidance, review, and mentorship to members of the accounting team.
β’ Enhance accounting processes and controls for improved accuracy, efficiency, scalability, and automation.
β’ Document accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls.
β’ Lead and complete special projects from inception to conclusion.
β’ Work with finance, operations, compliance, tax, treasury, and other business teams to ensure suitable accounting treatment.
β’ Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
β’ Strong understanding of GAAP and basic accounting principles.
β’ A minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience, particularly in the insurance or reinsurance industry.
β’ Proven experience managing intricate accounting processes with a high level of autonomy.
β’ Demonstrated capability to research accounting issues, make sound judgments, and independently decide on suitable next steps.
β’ Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
β’ Capacity to comprehend transaction-level details and the broader financial implications.
β’ Ability to work efficiently in a dynamic environment where processes or responsibilities may not always be well-defined.
β’ Excellent communication skills and the capability to collaborate effectively with accounting professionals and non-accounting business partners.
β’ CPA designation preferred.
β’ Experience with international accounting, foreign subsidiaries, multi-currency environments, and/or intercompany accounting.
β’ Background in a complex multi-entity organization.
β’ Familiarity with accounting systems and close/reconciliation platforms such as NetSuite, Applied Epic, Numeric, or Floqast.
β’ Experience in identifying and implementing improvements or automation in accounting processes.
β’ Prior experience mentoring, reviewing, or developing junior accounting staff.
