Security Advisor

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Sudan.

📋 Description

• Provide guidance on security country plans and standard operating procedures (SOPs), covering aspects such as content, structure, updates, risks, and mitigation strategies.

• Collaborate with local security forces, diplomatic missions, private security firms, informal security networks, and other pertinent agencies.

• Deliver regular security updates to LAW staff, visitors, and partners.

• Maintain knowledge of the regional threat landscape and risks pertinent to LAW operations.

• Monitor emerging threats and generate reports containing actionable mitigation advice.

• Offer counsel on programmatic developments, including litigation, alongside potential security risks for staff, partners, and clients.

• Assess the security management procedures of local partners and provide practical recommendations.

• Advise on security mission plans and mitigation strategies based on objectives, timelines, locations, and the security context.

• Provide recommendations for secure accommodations and transportation.

• Conduct initial security briefings and debriefings for visiting staff and consultants.

• Maintain ongoing communication with staff during missions, offer daily security updates, and oversee daily check-ins.

• Accompany LAW staff on missions to Sudan as needed and manage the threat environment in real time.

• Keep staff informed during significant security incidents.

• Act as the primary contact during staff crisis situations and coordinate or participate in crisis management teams.

• Facilitate emergency crisis management efforts, including evacuation support.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree or relevant certifications in security management.

• A minimum of five years of experience in security management.

• Ideally, experience within an international organization or non-governmental organization.

• Preferred experience with organizations focused on human rights.

• Proven experience liaising with international, diplomatic, governmental, and local authorities, including security networks.

• Background in developing safety and security protocols and procedures, including security mission and country plans.

• Experience in supporting implementation across various stakeholders.

• Ability to consolidate information to produce clear assessments and recommendations.

• Experience in crisis and incident management for international non-governmental organizations (INGOs).

• Proven ability to work in challenging and dynamic environments.

• Capability to develop solutions to emerging challenges and maintain composure under pressure.

• Excellent interpersonal skills.

• Proficient in effective communication across cultures, particularly in crisis management scenarios.

• Demonstrated commitment to high professional and ethical standards.

• Preferably located in Sudan.
