School Health Specialist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Ohio.

📋 Description

• Deliver preventive health services that enhance the educational experience and support the physical, mental, emotional, and social growth of students.

• Detect health issues and disabilities.

• Facilitate case identification, health education, referrals, and care.

• Assist with onboarding requirements, Medical 504 and IEP processes, and monitor medical concerns for both the school and families.

• Advocate for and safeguard students' optimal health status.

• Communicate with parents regarding their children's health needs and act as a resource for staff on school health matters.

• Collaborate with leadership to formulate policies, procedures, and work standards for the school health program.

• Ensure adherence to federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and policies.

• Partner with child-support agencies to design and implement a school health program.

• Organize, screen, and carry out health assessments for students and staff.

• Document immunizations, health screening results, and other pertinent health information in local, state, and federal databases.

• Uphold the confidentiality of student records.

• Provide instruction in health careers and health sciences to a caseload of students.

• Advocate for health careers and coordinate student organizations.

• Offer health guidance and presentations to students across various grade levels.

⛳️ Requirements

• A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution is mandatory.

• Current LPN license or a higher-level healthcare license/credential in the state where services will be performed, as applicable to the role.

• At least two (2) years of professional experience in healthcare, clinical, public health, school health, or a related health services environment.

• Must fulfill all state-required background checks, clearances, and other employment prerequisites.

• Required clearances from the State Department of Education, if applicable.

• Proficient understanding of public health issues and treatment procedures in collaboration with other health and social service organizations.

• Familiarity with Federal, State, and Local laws and regulations impacting the provision of school health services.

• Basic knowledge of the school organization and the community it serves.

• Capacity to recognize abnormal growth and development as well as symptoms of disease.

• Ability to coordinate and facilitate services among the school, local health agency, and other community resources.

• Competence in developing and maintaining student health records.

• Skill in establishing positive working relationships.

• Exceptional oral and written communication abilities.

• Capability to pass required background checks.

• Ability to maintain a professional home office without distractions during working hours.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and web applications is preferred.

• Willingness to travel 20% of the time is preferred.
