SAP Data Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in India.

📋 Description

• Design and execute contemporary ETL/ELT architectures that integrate SAP source systems (ECC, S/4HANA, BW/4HANA) with cloud-based data platforms.

• Create and sustain robust data pipelines for extracting, transforming, and loading SAP data into enterprise data warehouses and data lakes to meet BI and reporting requirements.

• Develop and oversee integrations utilizing SAP Data Services, SAP BW Extractors, ODP, and RFC/BAPI connections.

• Collaborate with SAP functional consultants and business stakeholders to comprehend data structures, business logic, and transformation needs.

• Construct data flows into SAP and SAP Analytics Cloud to enhance data accessibility for the FP&A team.

• Manage and optimize SAP-connected databases and data stores to ensure performance, availability, and data integrity.

• Work alongside the BI team to enhance reporting through SAP data preprocessing, schema design, and dimensional data modeling.

• Monitor and fine-tune data storage, processing, and pipeline costs across SAP and cloud environments.

• Design and implement real-time and near-real-time data pipeline architectures, including SAP SLT, SAP CDS Views, and event-driven pipelines.

• Develop alerting and data quality frameworks to identify, escalate, and rectify SAP data discrepancies.

• Document data flows, SAP integration patterns, and pipeline architectures.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related quantitative field; relevant professional experience may be accepted in place of formal education.

• 2–4 years of experience in a Data Engineering position, including a minimum of 2 years of hands-on SAP integration experience.

• Strong expertise in SAP data extraction methods: BW Extractors, ODP, CDS Views, RFCs, BAPIs, and IDocs.

• Practical experience with SAP Data Services (BODS), SAP BW/4HANA, SAP S/4HANA data models, and SAP Landscape Transformation (SLT).

• Proficient in Python and SQL for data transformation; experience with Spark and cloud-based computing (AWS EC2, Glue, or equivalent) is highly desirable.

• Hands-on experience with PySpark Glue jobs, Lambda functions, NoSQL databases, job orchestration using Airflow, and/or managing Redshift or similar cloud data warehouses.

• Familiar with SAP ABAP for reading and understanding custom extraction programs and table structures; development experience is a plus but not required.

• Detail-oriented with a strong interest in how SAP business processes relate to data transformations and their subsequent impact on business outcomes.

• Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and time management abilities, with the capacity to navigate competing priorities in a fast-paced setting.

• Adaptable and cooperative team player who excels in dynamic, cross-functional environments.

• Previous experience in a project or team lead role is preferred; enthusiasm for mentoring and knowledge-sharing with junior engineers is a strong advantage.

• Familiarity with SAP Integration Suite (formerly SAP Cloud Platform Integration/CPI) or SAP Data Intelligence.

• Exposure to SAP RISE or SAP BTP data services.

• Certification in SAP Data Engineering, Finance, SAP BW, or related SAP modules.

• Prior experience in energy, utilities, or emerging-market technology sectors.

• Experience with AWS, Redshift, and orchestrating Airflow DAGs.
