This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in North Carolina.
• Oversee all Environmental, Health, and Safety operations at the designated BESS project site.
• Provide guidance and supervision to site safety personnel as necessary.
• Execute and uphold the Site-Specific Safety Plan, standard operating procedures, and BESS Standard Work Instructions.
• Collaborate with project leadership to synchronize safety implementation with project timelines, workforce, and construction milestones.
• Establish and supervise safety measures for BESS installation and commissioning activities.
• Ensure adherence to electrical safety protocols, including NFPA 70E, LOTO, barricading, and energy isolation methods.
• Work with electrical and commissioning teams to manage risks associated with interconnection, testing, and energization.
• Promote safe practices concerning high-energy systems, temporary conditions, and evolving site hazards.
• Guarantee compliance with OSHA, state, local, client, and organizational safety standards.
• Assist in EHS compliance strategies, training programs, and record management.
• Conduct field audits, inspections, and observational assessments.
• Maintain safety documentation and aid in internal and client audits.
• Spearhead emergency response planning and execution.
• Oversee incident reporting, investigations, and root cause analysis procedures.
• Ensure that corrective actions are implemented and effective.
• Track leading and lagging indicators to identify patterns and mitigate risks.
• Facilitate safety stand-downs, coaching sessions, and field engagement activities.
• Cultivate relationships with operations, subcontractors, and client safety representatives.
• Support safety meetings, client interface discussions, and coordination with corporate and regional safety leaders.
• Perform additional duties as required.
• At least 5 years of relevant EHS leadership experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field (preferred).
• BCSP Certification (minimum CHST).
• Experience in supporting BESS, solar, substation, or industrial electrical projects is highly preferred.
• Familiarity with OSHA 1926 standards, particularly for high-risk construction activities.
• Understanding of NFPA 70E basics.
• Knowledge of LOTO / energy isolation protocols.
• Awareness of electrical hazard controls in construction settings.
• Capability to lead field safety initiatives, mentor teams, and collaborate effectively with operations and subcontractor groups.
• Strong organizational, communication, and documentation abilities.
• Proficiency in both verbal and written English is essential.
• Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.
• Willingness to travel and work at assigned project sites as necessary.
• Ability to engage in frequent physical activities both indoors and outdoors.
• Capacity to stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and reach.
• Capability to lift and carry materials weighing up to 50 pounds, with assistance for heavier items.
