Safety Manager – BESS

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Florida, +2 more states.

📋 Description

• Oversee all Environmental, Health, and Safety functions at the designated battery energy storage project site.

• Provide guidance and management to site safety personnel.

• Implement and uphold the Site-Specific Safety Plan, standard operating procedures, and BESS Standard Work Instructions.

• Collaborate with project leadership to synchronize safety execution with the schedule, manpower, and construction milestones.

• Establish and monitor safety controls for BESS installation and commissioning processes.

• Advise on electrical safety requirements, including NFPA 70E, LOTO, barricading, and energy isolation controls.

• Coordinate with electrical and commissioning teams to address interconnection, testing, and energization risks.

• Reinforce safe practices concerning high-energy systems, temporary conditions, and evolving site hazards.

• Ensure adherence to OSHA, state, local, client, and Moss safety standards.

• Assist in EHS compliance plans, training initiatives, and recordkeeping.

• Conduct field audits, inspections, and observations.

• Maintain safety documentation and facilitate internal and client audits.

• Lead emergency response planning and execution efforts.

• Direct incident reporting, investigations, and root cause analysis.

• Ensure that corrective actions are implemented and effective.

• Monitor leading and lagging indicators and proactively manage risks.

• Conduct safety stand-downs, coaching sessions, and field engagement activities.

• Build strong relationships with project operations, subcontractors, and client safety representatives.

• Support safety meetings, client interface meetings, and coordination with corporate/regional safety leadership.

• Perform additional duties as assigned.

⛳️ Requirements

• At least 5 years of relevant EHS leadership experience.

• Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field (preferred).

• BCSP Certification (minimum CHST).

• Experience in supporting BESS, solar, substation, or industrial electrical projects is highly preferred.

• Familiarity with OSHA 1926 requirements, particularly for high-risk construction activities.

• Understanding of NFPA 70E fundamentals.

• Knowledge of LOTO / energy isolation practices.

• Awareness of electrical hazard controls in construction settings.

• Capability to lead field safety execution, coach teams, and collaborate effectively with operations and subcontractor groups.

• Excellent organizational, communication, and documentation skills.

• Proficiency in verbal and written English is required.

• Bilingual in Spanish is preferred.

• Willingness to travel and work at assigned project locations as necessary.

• Ability to engage in frequent physical activity in both indoor and outdoor environments.

• Capability to stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and reach with hands and arms.

• Ability to lift and carry materials weighing up to 50 pounds, and occasionally handle heavier loads with assistance.
