📋 Description

• Provide engineering assistance for AV Operational Safety and Issue Response.

• Collaborate effectively with AV Safety Strategy and Assurance as well as AV Operations to address issue-specific analyses, organize event-related data, and conduct root-cause investigations.

• Work alongside Engineering, Operations, and Safety teams to examine potential AV issues and perform root-cause analyses.

• Convert investigation needs into analysis requirements, data requirements, analytical designs, and execution plans.

• Develop and maintain rapid incident-response and targeted-analysis capabilities utilizing established data pipelines and unique datasets relevant to specific issues and incidents.

• Integrate vehicle telemetry, time-series signals, event and incident records, readiness-drill data, software-release information, location and operational context, and additional sources into analysis-ready datasets.

• Use engineering judgment and data validation techniques to differentiate data-quality issues, sensor problems, instrumentation, and pipeline challenges from significant operational outliers.

• Present clear, technically sound analysis findings, readouts, and evidence to evaluate operations safety issues and determine subsequent actions.

• Identify investigation workflows that can evolve into reusable metrics, detection methods, pipelines, or analytical tools.

• Employ engineering and physics-based techniques, such as signal decomposition, filtering, smoothing, sampling, and feature construction, to convert noisy signals into significant representations of vehicle behavior and system performance.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, physics, applied mathematics, or a related physical science.

• Over 5 years of relevant professional experience analyzing large-scale time-series, telemetry, vehicle, robotics, or other engineering datasets.

• Proficient in Python and SQL.

• Experience in time-series analysis, including techniques such as signal decomposition, filtering, smoothing, sampling, feature construction, or similar signal-processing methods.

• Proven track record in designing and executing ad hoc analyses while identifying opportunities to create scalable and repeatable analytical methods.

• Skilled in gathering analytical requirements, defining data needs, selecting appropriate methods, and communicating findings to partner teams.

• Strong problem-solving abilities and capacity to work effectively in fast-paced, ambiguous, and highly iterative investigations.

• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

• Capable of producing fact-based reports through individual and collaborative efforts across safety, operations, human factors, data engineering, and emerging-issues teams.

• Background in autonomous vehicles, advanced driver-assistance systems, robotics, transportation safety, or a related field.

• Experience in detecting AV- or SDV-specific issues, anomaly detection, event investigation, or root-cause analysis.

• Proficient in analyzing large-scale vehicle motion, driving context, automated-driving performance, or operational data.

• Experience in developing safety performance indicators, safety monitoring methods, or evidence utilized in safety assurance and operational decisions.

• Familiar with cloud-based data platforms, distributed processing, or large-scale analytics workflows.

• Knowledge of BigQuery or comparable cloud data platforms.

• Basic understanding of C++ or C++-based robotics and vehicle software environments.

• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, GitHub, CI/CD, version control, or related software development workflows.

• Experience collaborating with human factors, operations, systems, validation, verification, or safety assurance teams.

• Publications, conference participation, or demonstrated involvement in vehicle safety, robotics safety, safety analytics, or related technical fields.

• Must not require GM immigration sponsorship now or in the future.

• Must be eligible to work in the United States.
