This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Design and develop APIs, encompassing specifications, endpoints, data models, and both REST and GraphQL protocols.
• Contribute high-quality production code for essential services.
• Conduct code reviews alongside the Technical Lead, ensuring code quality, maintainability, and security standards.
• Review solution designs with the Engineering Crew Lead and the API Architect.
• Integrate APIs with internal systems, external applications, and third-party services.
• Advocate for the effective use of AI-enabled tools throughout the API development lifecycle.
• Create and maintain comprehensive API documentation, usage guidelines, and best practices.
• Implement security measures such as authentication, authorization, and encryption.
• Collaborate with external engineering teams on technical standards, governance, compliance, and cATO maintenance.
• Monitor and enhance API performance, reliability, and scalability.
• Manage API versioning and ensure backward compatibility.
• Provide support for production systems, troubleshoot issues, and implement enhancements.
• Participate in Tier 1 and Tier 2 on-call operations.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
• Over 6 years of robust experience with Ruby on Rails.
• Proficient in relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL.
• Familiarity with the RSpec testing framework.
• Strong background in designing, building, and maintaining APIs.
• Capability to lead engineering teams while remaining actively involved in development.
• Must be able to work in the US without sponsorship.
• US citizenship is required due to clearance necessities.
• Excellent organizational skills.
• Understanding of Docker, Kubernetes, and Helm.
• Knowledge of application security principles and secure development practices.
• Familiarity with Git version control.
• Understanding of OAuth.
• Experience with asynchronous job processing tools like Sidekiq.
• Familiarity with Spring Boot / Java.
• Active VA Public Trust clearance.
• Prior experience supporting federal agencies, particularly the Department of Veterans Affairs.
• Experience working in an API development environment.
• Previous successful experience in a remote work setting.
