Risk Control Consultant – Boiler and Machinery

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Massachusetts.

📋 Description

• Report directly to the Boiler and Machinery Field Manager.

• Conduct inspections of boilers and pressure vessels in line with jurisdictional regulations.

• Perform comprehensive assessments, identify hazardous conditions, apply relevant codes and standards, recommend corrective actions, and submit necessary reports.

• Collaborate with Boiler and Machinery underwriting and claims teams to facilitate informed decision-making and enhance profit and growth.

• Maintain a regular field presence, spending roughly 20%–50% of time on-site with clients.

• Travel to client locations, which may involve long-distance, overnight, and multi-night trips.

• Manage the inspection workload within a designated territory as per jurisdictional requirements.

• Prioritize, organize, and schedule work effectively.

• Address customer inquiries and assist them in understanding and mitigating risks related to equipment breakdowns.

• Conduct less complex risk evaluations, assess exposures and controls, develop loss estimates, and convey findings.

• Assess the effectiveness of controls in preventing equipment breakdowns and evaluate overall insurability.

• Investigate less complex Equipment Breakdown claims, including breakdown components, extent of damage, invoice reviews, and causes of loss.

• Document, communicate, and report all findings thoroughly.

• Perform additional duties as assigned.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.

• Two years of experience in the boiler and machinery sector or a related area, such as plant engineering, power generation, manufacturing operations or maintenance, or pertinent military experience.

• Valid driver's license required.

• Must acquire an Inservice Commission (IS) from the National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspectors within six months of employment.

• Must possess or be able to obtain the necessary certification to meet state-specific requirements, if applicable.

• Basic understanding of mechanical and electrical principles.

• Fundamental knowledge of predictive and preventive maintenance practices.

• Engineering/technical skills essential to meet established business objectives.

• Ability to use Risk Control workstation computer system applications.

• National Board of Boiler and Pressure Vessel Inspector’s Inservice commission.

• Military Boiler or Nuclear Power operator certification.

• Civilian Power Boiler Operation Certificate.

• ANSI NDE Level II Examiner Certification.
