Revenue Accounting Manager

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of and expand the complete revenue recognition processes in alignment with ASC 606 and GAAP standards.

• Analyze customer contracts to ascertain the appropriate accounting treatment for software, subscriptions, implementation, professional services, and various revenue streams.

• Oversee revenue-related month-end and quarter-end closings, which include journal entries, reconciliations, deferred revenue, and related schedules.

• Ensure precise revenue and deferred revenue reporting while investigating any discrepancies.

• Collaborate with Sales, Legal, Finance, and Customer teams regarding non-standard contracts, pricing structures, amendments, renewals, and other revenue-related matters.

• Create and uphold technical accounting documentation and revenue recognition memos.

• Assist in forecasting and reporting by offering insights into revenue trends, timing, and drivers.

• Recognize opportunities to automate and enhance revenue accounting processes and controls.

• Aid in annual audits by providing documentation for revenue recognition and contract accounting.

• Strengthen internal controls and ensure that revenue processes are prepared for audits.

• Act as the internal expert on revenue accounting and ASC 606.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.

• Over 5 years of progressively responsible accounting experience, specifically in revenue accounting.

• CPA certification or experience in public accounting.

• Background in a SaaS or recurring-revenue business model.

• Strong understanding of ASC 606 and U.S. GAAP.

• Experience in reviewing SaaS, software, or other intricate customer contracts.

• Proficient in managing revenue during month-end and quarter-end closings.

• Advanced Excel skills and financial systems expertise.

• Capability to convert technical accounting requirements into actionable business advice.

• Exceptional attention to detail with the ability to function at both technical and strategic levels.

• Competence to work collaboratively across functions and manage uncertainty in a growing organization.

• Skill in developing processes rather than merely maintaining existing ones.

• Preferred: familiarity with ERP, billing, CRM, and revenue automation systems.

• Preferred: experience in supporting a scaling or private equity-backed organization.

• Preferred: understanding of multi-element arrangements, professional services, implementation fees, contract modifications, and variable consideration.
