Revenue Accountant

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Manage the complete billing cycle for subscription, usage-based, and outcome-based agreements.

• Generate precise invoices and oversee billing timelines, including upgrades, mid-term adjustments, renewals, credits, and reconciliations.

• Maintain revenue and deferred revenue schedules according to ASC 606 standards.

• Responsible for month-end closing journal entries related to revenue, accounts receivable, and associated accounts.

• Prepare monthly reconciliations, roll-forwards, variance analyses, and reports ready for closing.

• Assist in reviewing new and modified contracts to determine revenue treatment, including standalone selling price allocation, contract modifications, and variable considerations.

• Document conclusions regarding revenue treatment and collaborate with Sales on contract inquiries.

• Manage the commission accrual and payout process with FP&A, Sales, and People Operations.

• Capitalize and amortize commissions and other costs incurred to secure a contract in accordance with ASC 340-40.

• Oversee cash receipts, payment applications, AR aging, collections cadence, and the allowance for credit losses.

• Provide weekly, monthly, and on-demand AR reports and metrics to management.

• Highlight at-risk balances in collaboration with Sales and Customer Success.

• Act as the primary contact for customer and internal billing inquiries.

• Collaborate with Sales, Deal Desk, Legal, and FP&A on contracts, revenue forecasting, and billing inputs.

• Enhance quote-to-cash processes within NetSuite and Tabs.

• Maintain internal controls and support for audit readiness.

• Act as a key revenue liaison for external auditors.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of experience in revenue accounting, billing, or order-to-cash positions, including responsibility for a monthly revenue close.

• A Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.

• Experience in revenue accounting at a technology or SaaS firm with recurring and usage-based revenue models.

• Proficient understanding of ASC 606 as it pertains to subscription and usage-based revenue frameworks, including deferred revenue, contract modifications, and variable considerations.

• Required proficiency in NetSuite, including knowledge of the Advanced Revenue Management module.

• Direct experience with a dedicated billing platform is essential, preferably Tabs or similar systems like Zuora, Ordway, Maxio, or Stripe Billing.

• Advanced skills in Excel and Google Sheets, including pivot tables, lookups, and high-volume reconciliation tasks.

• Outstanding problem-solving and communication abilities.

• Capacity to manage ambiguity, handle competing deadlines, and adhere to close timelines while ensuring accuracy.

• Eagerness to learn and contribute within a fast-paced team environment.

• Familiarity with ASC 340-40 is an advantage.

• CPA certification is preferred but not mandatory.
