Residential Construction Senior Specialist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alabama, +6 more states.

📋 Description

• Manage, assess, and supervise residential construction loans from the pre-closing stage until project completion.

• Ensure compliance with SouthState Bank policies and promote effective communication among borrowers, builders, and internal teams.

• Authorize builders, contracts, final construction budgets, deposit advances, and methods for deposit recoupment.

• Grant minor procedural exceptions when necessary.

• Provide assistance with consumer loans related to legal or lien matters and offer guidance on insurance loss claims.

• Mentor and coach junior specialists, funding specialists, and mortgage staff.

• Review construction contracts to address inconsistencies and assess risk implications.

• Evaluate builders and discuss the construction process along with disclosures with both builders and borrowers.

• Confirm and finalize budgets for inspection and draw processes.

• Dispatch welcome letters to both customers and builders.

• Offer onboarding assistance to MLOs and approved items to CLA funding specialists.

• Review third-party inspection reports and resolve draw-related issues accordingly.

• Track the active construction loan portfolio for progress, adverse trends, and risks.

• Facilitate communication among all involved parties.

• Manage loans that involve disputes, lien filings, or legal matters in partnership with Special Assets and Legal teams.

• Assume responsibility for assigned tasks and challenges.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree.

• A minimum of 10 years’ experience in residential mortgage lending, residential construction, or a combination of both.

• Possession of a State Builder or General Contractor License.

• In-depth knowledge of residential mortgage lending and residential construction processes.

• Strong verbal communication and interpersonal abilities.

• Proficient communication skills in person, over the phone, and via electronic methods.

• Capability to frequently use a computer, including typing and maintaining focus on a monitor.

• Ability to sit, walk, and/or stand for prolonged periods.

• Physical ability to bend and reach.

• For remote roles, a secure and distraction-free environment with a reliable internet connection is mandatory; mobile hotspots are not acceptable.
