Resident Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Colombia.

📋 Description

• Deliver technical expertise both on-site and remotely for Ciena's optical transport and network management solutions, encompassing products such as 6500, RLS, Waveserver, and MCP.

• Assess network conditions and provide solution recommendations to both customers and internal teams.

• Analyze product performance and serviceability to guide enhancements and modifications.

• Develop, review, validate, and publish documentation intended for customers, including MOPs, RCA reports, audits, and network health assessments.

• Act as the main technical point of contact for customer inquiries, troubleshooting efforts, and product-related support.

• Address escalated system-level challenges through product simulation, root cause analysis, and collaboration with development engineering teams.

• Promote communication regarding incidents, troubleshooting efforts, and systemic issues among stakeholder groups.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field/discipline.

• Over 4 years of experience in technical support, ideally with a telecommunications equipment vendor.

• Proficient in OTN, Broadband, Photonics, DWDM, ROADM, and various switching/transport technologies and products.

• Familiarity with OME 6500, RLS, and Waveserver optical transport platforms.

• Knowledge of Python or similar technologies for creating automation scripts and workflows.

• Experience with network management systems and components used for monitoring and maintaining customer networks.

• Understanding of fiber optic transport, switching protocols, and data communications protocols.
