This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Support data gathering for a research initiative focused on how native seed-dispersing animals contribute to the restoration of oak woodlands after fires in southern California.
• Capture, band, and measure wild jays utilizing baited drop traps.
• Conduct resightings and observe the behavior of color-banded birds.
• Aid in the setup and data collection for seed provisioning experiments.
• Carry out data entry and other routine administrative tasks.
• Primarily operate at The Nature Conservancy’s Dangermond Preserve located along the southern California coast.
• A Bachelor's Degree in a biological sciences field or equivalent experience is required.
• 4 years of pertinent experience with a High School diploma or GED, 2 years of relevant experience with an Associate's Degree, or no relevant experience with a Bachelor's Degree.
• 3 months of experience in collecting ornithological field data is preferred.
• Graduate-level education in ecology or a related discipline is desirable.
• Skills in capturing and banding passerines are desirable.
• Good color vision is essential for the resighting of color bands.
• Must be able to work independently and hike long distances in challenging, hot, and steep terrains.
• Must be willing to reside in a remote, communal environment.
• A valid U.S. driver's license is required.
• Successful completion of a background check; may require a drug screening or physical examination.
• This is a temporary position dependent on funding and performance.
• Scheduled for 40 hours of work per week.
• First shift schedule.
