Research Manager, Datacenter Facilities

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Oversee the datacenter market and industry, encompassing facilities, equipment, services, and prominent datacenter owners/operators.

• Develop quantitative models for datacenter metrics, including buildouts, floor space, racks, power, cooling, IT infrastructure, and environmental metrics such as carbon emissions/avoidance.

• Collaborate with analysts in infrastructure and cloud services to ensure alignment of datacenter datasets with those of cloud, IT infrastructure, and AI infrastructure.

• Generate written content and social media coverage regarding datacenter news, events, and vendors.

• Create organized reports, blogs, and social media updates that highlight IDC research.

• Present at events, conduct webinars, and engage in vendor and end-user events as a subject matter expert.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree (STEM degree is advantageous, but not mandatory).

• A minimum of 5-10 years of relevant work experience, including a background in the IT and/or datacenter industry.

• Operating and market knowledge of the datacenter facilities sector.

• Familiarity with datacenter facilities, including buildouts, operations, cooling, power, racks, floor buildouts, and physical security.

• Understanding of hosting, colocation, and wholesale datacenter leasing.

• Strong awareness of IT infrastructure located in datacenters, including compute, storage, and networking.

• Essential quantitative and qualitative (narrative) skills.

• Excellent written and conversational skills.

• Experience in client engagement.

• Self-motivated, adaptable, and capable of taking initiative and solving problems.

• Must be willing to travel 35–50% of the time.

• Must have unrestricted travel ability to the US for meetings and vendor events; possess a US Visa and/or be a Canadian citizen.

• Must reside near an international airport.
