Research Manager

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Michigan, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Oversee grant writing and compile reports for funding organizations.

• Mentor Research Assistants and other members of the research team.

• Assist in the recruitment and training of Research Assistants and other research personnel.

• Support literature reviews, design survey instruments, perform data cleaning, plan surveys, monitor data quality, and supervise fieldwork.

• Ensure that projects adhere to GBL standards and protocols, including IRB approval, coding standards, and analysis methods.

• Identify potential risks in research design and project execution, suggest solutions, and escalate issues to researchers as needed.

• Maintain effective communication and alignment among researchers, GBL staff, and implementation partners.

• Clarify project expectations and resolve challenges as they arise.

• Ensure that projects are sufficiently equipped with both material and human resources.

• Keep project documentation, including codebooks, field protocols, and project logs, in compliance with academic transparency and reproducibility standards.

• Coordinate participant payments and study-related expenses with administrative and finance teams.

• Draft policy memos, research briefs, blogs, and articles pertaining to studies.

• Represent GBL at meetings with external stakeholders and deliver presentations.

• Support all phases of randomized evaluations across two projects based in the U.S.

• Contribute to the development of additional projects in the U.S.

⛳️ Requirements

• Master's or doctoral degree in Economics, Statistics, Public Policy, Development Studies, or a related field, or a Bachelor's degree with 4+ years of relevant work experience.

• Ability to collaborate within a team, manage multiple projects, and work autonomously.

• Experience in managing Randomized Controlled Trials.

• Extensive experience in conducting social science or economic field research, including supervising data collection, designing and implementing surveys, and managing data.

• Strong quantitative and analytical capabilities.

• Proficiency in Stata or R.

• Experience in financial reporting and management.

• Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel/spreadsheet applications.

• Strong knowledge of data science principles and AI coding platforms such as Claude Code and Codex/GPT.

• Detail-oriented with excellent written and oral communication skills.

• Willingness to travel occasionally to project sites.

• Experience in grant writing for both existing and new projects.

• Comfort in dynamic work environments with competing priorities.

• Ability to work collaboratively in teams with shared responsibilities.

• Capability to coordinate independently with colleagues.

• Resourcefulness in navigating new environments and scenarios.

• Problem-solving skills in high-pressure situations.

• Adaptability with a focus on addressing challenges rather than strictly following one method.

• Satisfactory background verification required for employment.
