Research Associate

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Propel the growth, implementation, and client satisfaction of Ballotpedia’s research programs.

• Create and maintain revenue through proactive prospecting, business development, and management of client relationships.

• Discover and nurture new research opportunities.

• Progress prospects through the sales pipeline.

• Define project scopes in collaboration with clients.

• Transform opportunities into high-quality, paid engagements.

• Oversee project execution from initiation to final delivery.

• Manage timelines and coordinate contributions from various teams.

• Recruit, onboard, and supervise research-project contractors.

• Ensure that deliverables meet contract or proposal specifications and fulfill client expectations.

• Assist internal research initiatives for Ballotpedia’s content and communications teams.

• Plan, oversee, and implement research projects.

• Create project plans, workflow documentation, and tracking/auditing systems.

• Develop specialized knowledge on unfamiliar topics and communicate findings internally and externally.

• Collaborate with Operations, External Relations, Content, and Tech teams on project estimates.

• Provide contractors with guidance and constructive feedback.

• Update project progress through email, Slack, Asana, and other communication platforms.

• Conduct research on potential clients, including funding sources, priorities, and decision-makers.

• Formulate customized client outreach strategies and key talking points.

• Monitor outreach, engagement, and follow-ups in Salesforce.

• Work collaboratively to design projects that align with client proposals and organizational objectives.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proven experience in research and project management.

• Experience in policy research and analysis across diverse topics.

• Preferred background in sales, prospecting, or business development.

• Experience with identifying leads and advancing opportunities through a sales pipeline is preferred.

• Ability to establish, manage, and maintain strong client relationships.

• Capability to define project scopes, set expectations, and deliver outstanding results.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Proficiency in translating complex research findings into client-ready materials.

• Ability to juggle multiple projects, competing deadlines, and revenue-generating priorities simultaneously.

• Preferred experience in supervising contractors, staff, cross-functional content teams, and/or client relations.

• Familiarity with CRM systems, Asana or similar project management tools, and Slack is advantageous.

• A computer with Internet access is necessary.
