Research Assistant, Economics

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Assist in the design of studies through scoping exercises, qualitative surveys, and literature reviews.

• Create and test survey instruments; oversee data quality and promptly address any issues.

• Enhance simulated task assessments for various professions as part of the AI-assisted job matching initiative.

• Carry out fieldwork and occasionally travel to project locations.

• Collaborate with implementation partners to synchronize timelines, provide updates, and resolve challenges.

• Work with administrative and finance teams regarding participant payments and study-related expenses.

• Recognize potential threats to research design, suggest solutions, and escalate concerns to researchers when necessary.

• Ensure compliance with research and data protocols, including IRB approval, coding standards, and analytical procedures.

• Keep project documentation up to date, which includes codebooks, field protocols, and project logs.

• Draft policy memos and research briefs regarding ongoing and completed studies.

• Collaborate with Professor Anant Nyshadham and researchers from various universities on two U.S.-based projects.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Economics, Statistics, Public Policy, Development Studies, or a related discipline.

• Proficiency in data analysis and statistical software like Stata or R.

• Experience in conducting fieldwork, including the design, scoping, and administration of surveys.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel or other spreadsheet applications.

• Strong understanding of data science principles and AI coding platforms (e.g., Claude Code, Codex/GPT).

• Excellent organizational and self-management abilities, with the capacity to handle multiple projects independently and meet deadlines.

• Detail-oriented with strong written and verbal communication skills.

• Willingness to occasionally travel to project sites.

• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

• Experience with digital data collection platforms such as SurveyCTO is preferred but not mandatory.
