Principal Scientist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Act as a scientific authority and leader within the science team.

• Oversee scientific projects and areas from start to finish, establishing scope, scientific requirements, and high-quality deliverables with minimal guidance.

• Represent Drug Hunter's scientific capabilities to expert audiences in external settings.

• Generate expert-level insights in unfamiliar scientific fields and critically evaluate related work.

• Make independent decisions regarding deliverable requirements, publishable scientific claims, and their relevance.

• Deliver presentations and talks externally, addressing expert inquiries in real-time.

• Collaborate with product development, engineering, and commercial teams to influence plans and roadmaps.

• Convert scientific judgment and insights into business decisions.

• Mentor early-career scientists through structured reviews, feedback, and examples.

• Lead projects, establish direction, remove obstacles, and assume responsibility for team outputs.

• Potentially supervise 1–2 direct reports, including aspects of hiring, development plans, feedback, performance evaluation, workload management, and growth opportunities.

• Adjust project areas when priorities or justifications change, proposing new strategies.

• Embrace new responsibilities to further team and organizational goals.

⛳️ Requirements

• Ph.D. in a relevant scientific field.

• Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.

• Proficiency in English.

• Generally 6+ years of post-Ph.D./postdoctoral experience, preferably in pertinent industry environments.

• Recognized as an internal authority in at least one scientific discipline, with credible knowledge of related areas.

• Capable of entering unfamiliar scientific domains and generating expert-level insights within a few days, while critically reviewing adjacent field works.

• Exhibits strong scientific judgment and reasoning.

• Quickly identifies subtle scientific and technical errors and issues.

• Completes assigned tasks in areas of authority promptly, ensuring high quality and scientific accuracy.

• Confidently presents externally, delivers talks, and answers expert questions in areas of expertise.

• Functions as a scientific partner to product development, engineering, and commercial teams.

• Interprets scientific judgment and insights for business decision-making.

• Maintains an external scientific network and reputation.

• Actively mentors early-career scientists and contributors.

• Leads projects involving other scientists.

• Demonstrates accountability and ownership of project areas, defining scope and priorities while delivering results independently.

• Able to adapt plans when priorities or rationales change.

• Comfortable transitioning into new domains, formats, or programs as needed.

• Willing to undertake new responsibilities as required.
