Relay/Protection & Control Specialist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Arizona.

📋 Description

• Operate and maintain medium- and high-voltage electrical systems.

• Commission, test, and safely energize new medium- and high-voltage electrical systems.

• Conduct DOBLE DGA sampling and HIPOT testing.

• Perform maintenance and testing on high-voltage systems.

• Test, configure, and maintain critical electrical power protection systems.

• Assist commissioning and construction teams during electrical and functional testing, start-ups, and troubleshooting.

• Test, calibrate, and maintain microprocessor-based protective relays and associated substation control circuits.

• Support the startup and commissioning of MV/HV switchgear, MCCs, transformers, and generator protection schemes.

• Diagnose electrical trips, equipment anomalies, and nuisance operations using event logs, oscillography, and COMTRADE/fault files.

• Read, interpret, and redline electrical schematics, one-line diagrams, wiring blueprints, and relay logic configurations.

• Execute work according to LOTO and NFPA 70E protocols while adhering to IEEE and local electrical codes.

• Record calibration test data, update asset health metrics in CMMS systems such as SAP PM or Maximo, and maintain as-built drawings.


⛳️ Requirements

• Associate’s Degree in Electrical Technology, Trade Certification (Power System Electrician), or Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE).

• 3 to 7+ years of hands-on experience with industrial or utility-grade protection and control systems.

• Proficiency with advanced relay testing equipment (e.g., OMICRON CMC sets, Doble, Megger).

• Strong understanding of power system protection principles (overcurrent, differential, directional, and distance protection).

• Familiarity with industrial communication protocols (Modbus, DNP3, IEC 61850).

• NICET or NETA certification is often preferred.

• Ability to work in heavy industrial environments, wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and lift field testing gear up to 60 lbs.

• Proficiency in MS Office software.

• 10+ years of commissioning/medium voltage experience.

• Valid driver’s license and clean driver's abstract.

• Successfully pass a drug and alcohol test.

• First Aid/CPR, OSHA 10, GHS, Defensive Driving, H2S Awareness certifications.

• Eligible to work in the US.

• Willingness to travel across the US as needed.
