Registered Nurse, Eating Disorders

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.

📋 Description

• Deliver empathetic and direct nursing care as part of the Eating Disorders Program.

• Conduct nursing assessments and gather pertinent medical history.

• Measure, observe, and document vital signs along with other clinical indicators.

• Record and document patient weights in accordance with program protocols.

• Observe for medical instability and escalate any concerns to healthcare providers and the interdisciplinary treatment team.

• Monitor and relay laboratory results and other medical findings.

• Collect specimens as directed.

• Assist in assessing medical status alongside Psychiatry Providers and Registered Dietitians.

• Identify and report psychiatric symptoms relevant to the treatment of eating disorders.

• Administer medications with precision and safety.

• Aid in prescription refills and medication prior authorizations.

• Track medication concerns, side effects, and patient responses.

• Provide nursing assistance during meals and snacks as designated.

• Support patients facing distress or acute symptoms related to eating.

• Collaborate on nutritional issues, meal support, medical monitoring, and changes in patient status.

• Help with individualized treatment plans within the limits of practice.

• Facilitate safe transitions between different levels of care.

• Offer therapeutic communication, education, and support to both patients and their families.

• Engage in interdisciplinary communication and rounds.

• Keep thorough and timely nursing documentation.

• Assist with laboratory orders, retrieval of results, discharge processes, and aftercare planning.

• Coordinate with outpatient providers when necessary.

• Conduct phone triage to assess whether concerns necessitate follow-up, consultation, or urgent intervention.

• Provide assistance during crises or emergencies while adhering to escalation protocols.

• Order and manage supplies, ensuring medication inventory and safety procedures are followed.

• Take part in training, supervision, consultation, quality improvement, compliance monitoring, and organizational committees.

• Contribute to the enhancement of program standards and clinical workflow.

• Perform additional duties as assigned.

⛳️ Requirements

• Valid Registered Nurse licensure in the State of Illinois (mandatory).

• Current Healthcare Provider CPR certification (mandatory).

• A minimum of 1 year of nursing experience in a hospital or clinical setting (mandatory).

• Experience in behavioral health or eating disorder treatment (mandatory).

• BSN is preferred; LPN candidates may be considered if applicable.

• Background in PHP, IOP, residential, inpatient, or other high-acuity behavioral healthcare environments (preferred).

• Exceptional therapeutic communication skills.

• A compassionate, nonjudgmental, and patient-centered care approach.

• Comfort in a behavioral health setting and ability to support patients in significant emotional distress.

• Ability to monitor medically vulnerable patients and promptly escalate any concerns.

• Skill in recognizing the interplay between psychiatric symptoms and medical/nutritional issues.

• Comfort in collaborating with Registered Dietitians, therapists, prescribers, and other clinical roles.

• Strong clinical judgment and meticulous attention to detail.

• Maintain appropriate professional boundaries and therapeutic relationship skills.

• Cultural humility and respect for the unique experiences of individual patients.

• Capability to work within established clinical protocols, program standards, and treatment team recommendations.

• Willingness to seek supervision and consultation when necessary.
