Regional Operations – Maintenance Manager

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Lead and cultivate a regional team of project managers, technicians, and contractors through effective workforce planning, coaching, training, and performance management.

• Provide continuous operational leadership for a portfolio of utility-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).

• Act as the senior on-call authority for operational, safety, and emergency response situations across the region.

• Achieve contractual performance targets, focusing on system availability, capacity, efficiency, and overall asset reliability.

• Develop and implement preventive, predictive, and condition-based maintenance programs.

• Analyze SCADA, EMS, BMS, and operational data; spearhead troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and permanent corrective actions.

• Manage battery health strategies, including degradation tracking, warranty claims, augmentation planning, and end-of-life asset management.

• Assist with the commissioning, energization, and operational readiness of new sites.

• Oversee outage planning, spare parts management, and logistics.

• Create, maintain, and test emergency response plans for thermal events, fires, outages, and cyber/OT incidents.

• Ensure compliance with OSHA, NFPA, electrical, environmental, permitting, interconnection, and other relevant regulatory requirements.

• Serve as the primary operational liaison for customers, OEMs, contractors, and senior leadership.

• Provide strategic insights and performance reporting.

• Manage regional O&M budgets, vendor performance, service agreements, and continuous improvement initiatives.

• Perform additional duties as assigned.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical, mechanical, energy, or industrial engineering, or an equivalent combination of technical education and substantial power-plant/electrical O&M experience.

• 6–8+ years of operations and maintenance experience in power systems (BESS, PV), including a minimum of 2–5 years in a supervisory or multi-site leadership role.

• Experience with utility-scale BESS (100MW+), hybrid solar-plus-storage, and stand-alone energy storage assets.

• Familiarity with battery energy storage, PV systems, and rotating power generation assets.

• Proven success in managing multi-site O&M operations, including planning, execution, vendor oversight, budgets, contracts, warranties, and performance guarantees.

• Experience establishing O&M programs for a growing fleet, incorporating process development, spare parts strategy, training, and operational readiness.

• Technical expertise in battery systems (lithium-ion phosphate), power conversion systems, MV/LV electrical distribution, SCADA/BMS/EMS platforms, industrial communications, and remote diagnostics.

• Experience in developing and implementing predictive and preventive maintenance programs, including root-cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives.

• Proficient in utilizing CMMS platforms such as Maximo, SAP PM, or similar maintenance management systems.

• Strong knowledge of electrical safety practices, including arc flash, lockout/tagout (LOTO), switching, and high-voltage work procedures.

• Comprehensive understanding of energy markets, capacity markets, ancillary services, and how operational decisions impact revenue performance.

• Proven ability to negotiate and manage vendor relationships, holding OEMs and contractors accountable for contractual performance standards.

• Demonstrated capability to lead technical teams and contractors, leverage operational data to inform business decisions, and communicate effectively with executives, engineers, field personnel, and customers.
