QA Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Develop, document, and implement functional and exploratory test cases for API and SDK-based product workflows.

• Undertake automation tasks on an as-needed basis to mitigate automation technical debt and address critical-flow deficiencies using SDET tools and frameworks.

• Collaborate with product managers, developers, and SDETs to convert acceptance criteria into test scenarios while identifying coverage gaps and edge cases.

• Take ownership of regression testing for the designated area prior to each release.

• Assist in the team's release-readiness activities.

• Aid in formalizing and conducting User Acceptance Testing across product and engineering.

• Record, categorize, and monitor defects with comprehensive reproduction steps, severity ratings, and expected versus actual outcomes.

• Ensure issues are followed through to resolution.

• Identify coverage gaps that necessitate more in-depth automated testing and communicate these to developers.

• Conduct testing in development, certification, and production environments.

• Engage in release-readiness evaluations.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of experience in QA or test engineering, preferably within fintech, payments, or another regulated, API-centric domain.

• Strong understanding of the QA process throughout all stages of the SDLC: test planning, test data preparation, execution, defect management, and release approval.

• Excellent instincts for test case design and exploratory testing.

• Proficient in reading API specifications and testing REST/JSON APIs directly using tools like Postman and cURL.

• Experience in writing BDD-style test scenarios, such as Gherkin/Cucumber or similar frameworks.

• Comfortable creating and maintaining automated tests using tools like Playwright and Selenium.

• Proficiency in at least one programming or scripting language relevant to test automation, such as JavaScript/TypeScript or Python.

• Working knowledge of SQL for data verification purposes.

• Familiarity with Git-based workflows, including GitHub.

• Experience utilizing Jira and Confluence, or similar tools, for test planning, tracking, and documentation.

• Experienced with a test management or UAT tool, such as TestRail, Zephyr, or equivalent.

• Strong written communication skills for clear and detailed bug reports and test plans.

• Able to thrive in a fast-paced environment while juggling competing priorities and projects.

• Comfortable collaborating with a distributed engineering team across different time zones.

• Preferred: experience in testing financial transaction processes like ledgers, settlements, reconciliations, or payments.

• Preferred: familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and automated testing.

• Preferred: experience working in an Agile/Scrum setting.
