QA Analyst / ETL Tester

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.

📋 Description

• Create, automate, and implement test cases for ETL processes within the Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) in a state government Medicaid context.

• Ensure data accuracy, integrity, and reliability throughout the ETL processes.

• Develop and implement test strategies to validate both functional and non-functional requirements of data pipelines.

• Utilize Informatica PowerCenter and Teradata RDBMS for validation of ETL processes and core data storage.

• Operate within Azure DevOps and Agile sprint cycles to maintain data quality, detect defects, and automate repetitive testing.

• Review Change Requests and engage in requirements analysis for new EDW extracts and transformations.

• Take part in data modeling and requirements gathering sessions.

• Conduct backend testing by comparing source systems with the target Medicaid Enterprise Data Warehouses.

• Confirm source-to-target data mappings and transformation logic for Medicaid datasets.

• Validate data quality, standardization rules, and accuracy in loading.

• Write complex SQL queries that involve multi-table JOINs and aggregations.

• Perform row counts, null checks, duplicate checks, and validate referential integrity.

• Design test plans, test cases, and test scenarios for the ETL processes.

• Document test outcomes and provide comprehensive feedback to stakeholders.

• Execute both manual and automated tests for full-load and incremental-load processes.

• Identify, document, and monitor discrepancies using JIRA, HP ALM, or Azure DevOps Test Plans.

• Collaborate with ETL developers to address defects and conduct regression testing.

• Create automated database validation scripts utilizing Python, SQL Alchemy, and Pandas.

• Develop shell scripts for ETL monitoring and log analysis.

• Integrate automation into Azure DevOps CI/CD pipelines.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of QA/testing experience in supporting ETL, data warehousing, backend data systems, healthcare analytics, or enterprise data platforms.

• More than 5 years of practical experience with Python, Azure, and Azure Data Factory (ADF) for data validation, test automation, pipeline testing, and cloud-based data solutions.

• Strong proficiency in SQL and relational databases like Teradata, SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, or their equivalents.

• Experience testing ETL, data warehouse, backend, integration, end-to-end, and UI solutions.

• A solid understanding of data warehousing and ETL principles, including dimensional modeling, Star/Snowflake schemas, Slowly Changing Dimensions (SCD Type 1/2), data transformations, and data quality validation.

• Proven experience in validating data mappings, business rules, source-to-target reconciliation, data transformations, and overall data integrity.

• Familiarity with ETL tools such as ADF, Informatica, Talend, or SSIS.

• Experience with test management tools including Azure DevOps, Jira, or HP ALM.

• Demonstrated ability in developing and executing test strategies, test plans, test cases, automation frameworks, and defect management processes.

• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, problem-solving, and root-cause analysis abilities.

• Experience in Agile/Scrum environments, with excellent communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills.

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, Data Analytics, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related discipline.

• Preferred: experience in healthcare, Medicaid, managed care, payer, or government healthcare programs.

• Preferred: knowledge of HIPAA and healthcare data standards and transactions, including 837/835, ICD-9/10, CPT, and HL7.

• Preferred: experience supporting Medicaid Enterprise Systems, State Medicaid programs, or state health and human services agencies.

• Preferred: experience testing large-scale healthcare data warehouses, reporting platforms, cloud modernization initiatives, or enterprise data transformation programs.

• Preferred: experience with Informatica or other enterprise ETL platforms.

• Preferred: experience in building or maintaining test automation, ETL validation, or data quality automation frameworks.

• Preferred: experience with CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, GitHub/Git, release management, and automated deployment processes.

• Preferred: experience aiding Azure cloud migration, data platform modernization, and enterprise-scale transformation initiatives.

• Preferred: experience collaborating with business, operational, technology, and regulatory stakeholders in highly governed healthcare settings.
