This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in District of Columbia, +1 more state.
• Supervise the entire lifecycle of the magazine, including production timelines and publication schedules.
• Monitor article revisions through a detailed approval process.
• Offer comprehensive editorial assistance for content creation and promotional materials.
• Establish and maintain version control and quality assurance measures throughout the editing and document production stages.
• Act as the main point of contact between writing/author teams and layout/design teams.
• Oversee review procedures involving authors, technical reviewers, and legal advisors.
• Guarantee that articles and the magazine as a whole comply with the GPO Style Manual, Chicago Manual of Style, and Section 508 accessibility standards.
• Verify that all necessary sign-offs and approvals are secured prior to public dissemination.
• Manage distribution and formatting requirements for professional publication.
• Report directly to the Engagement Manager.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, English, Journalism, or a closely related discipline.
• A minimum of 7 to 10 years of increasingly responsible experience in editorial and publication management.
• Demonstrated success in managing the production of a periodical, ideally in a technical or specialty publication.
• Proficiency in project management for scheduled publication cycles.
• Advanced skills in substantive editing, copyediting, and proofreading.
• In-depth knowledge of Section 508 compliance and federal publishing standards.
• Capability to manage intricate approval processes and coordinate between technical and creative teams.
• Eligibility to obtain a public trust clearance.
• Must be a U.S. citizen or a lawful permanent resident.
• Ability to work in the U.S. without requiring sponsorship.
• Preferred experience in transportation, particularly in surface transportation research.
• Familiarity with safety and operations, autonomous vehicles, human factors, roadway design, materials, and bridge engineering is preferred.
• Expert knowledge of the GPO Style Manual.
• Strong understanding of the Chicago Manual of Style and Section 508 accessibility guidelines.
