This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States, +9 more locations.
• Investigate and address cases related to publication ethics for all PLOS journals.
• Provide support on publication ethics to PLOS journal teams.
• Resolve cases promptly in accordance with PLOS standards and COPE guidelines.
• Handle escalations and inquiries regarding publication ethics matters.
• Contribute to casework, documentation, workflows, policy updates, and other team processes.
• Participate in cross-functional initiatives aimed at enhancing the detection, prevention, and resolution of publication ethics cases.
• Assist journal staff editors throughout the manuscript handling, peer review, and post-publication processes.
• Engage with editorial leads, Editorial Board members, authors, PLOS teams, and other stakeholders.
• Take part in internal discussions focused on publication ethics and research integrity.
• Stay informed about cross-industry issues and attend COPE Forums during working hours.
• Support recruitment, onboarding, training, and feedback for members of the Publication Ethics team.
• Exceptional written and oral communication and presentation skills.
• Highly organized, efficient self-starter with strong attention to detail and excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities.
• A collaborative team player comfortable working within a remote team environment.
• A strong commitment to open access and maintaining research integrity.
• Familiarity with peer review, publishing processes, editorial decision-making, and publication ethics issues and standards.
• Prior experience in investigating and resolving publication ethics cases.
• Knowledge of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) standards and guidance.
• A Master’s degree or PhD (or equivalent) in a scientific discipline.
• Experience in an editorial or publication ethics role within science, technical, and medical (STM) publishing.
• Hands-on experience resolving publication ethics cases in STM publishing.
• Proven ability to critically evaluate scientific articles or publication ethics issues.
• Some flexibility to work across different time zones.
• Preferred: Expertise in image forensics and experience in delivering training sessions.
• Preferred: Post-graduate research experience in a scientific, clinical, or social science discipline.
