Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, PMHNP

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.

📋 Description

• Evaluate the mental and physical condition of adolescent and adult patients based on their symptoms and concerns.

• Identify psychiatric disorders and mental health issues.

• Differentiate between physiologically and psychologically based disorders and provide accurate diagnoses.

• Provide individual psychotherapy for both chronic and acute mental health disorders.

• Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to design, implement, and assess treatment plans.

• Order diagnostic tests, including EKGs and laboratory work.

• Prescribe psychotropic medications, including controlled substances, while educating patients about their risks, benefits, and side effects.

• Oversee medication use, monitor side effects, and assess treatment efficacy.

• Assess patient behavior and their responses to treatment.

• Effectively deescalate challenging situations with patients when necessary.

• Provide education to patients and their families regarding mental health issues, treatment strategies, and medications.

• Maintain comprehensive documentation of medical and psychological histories, assessments, diagnoses, treatment plans, prescriptions, and outcomes.

• Complete administrative tasks, including FMLA and other required forms.

• Organize and manage follow-up appointments and ongoing treatment requirements.

• Conduct patient visits and ensure precise documentation in the EHR.

• Adhere to HIPAA regulations, 42 CFR Part 2, national care standards, and internal policies.

• Consult with recommended references and the Clinical Director and/or Medical Director for clinical support.

⛳️ Requirements

• Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Nurse Practitioner.

• Current Board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) license is required.

• Experience in Addiction and Mental Health is essential.

• Open to obtaining additional state licenses.

• Experience with Motivational Interviewing is preferred.

• Willingness to collaborate with clients to meet their goals.

• Experience working with adults requiring general mental health care and/or severe mental illness (SMI) treatment.

• Comfort and experience working with patients across the lifespan (ages 13 years and older).

• Knowledge of mental health diagnoses and/or dual diagnoses related to substance abuse.

• Proficient in treatment planning.

• Capability to perform and utilize comprehensive assessments.

• Timely and quality documentation skills; experience with EHR systems is necessary.

• Adaptability to technology, including telehealth software; comfort with video communication is required.

• Understanding of and adherence to HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2 regulations.

• Eligibility to work in the United States; visa sponsorship or work eligibility assistance is not available.

• For clinicians with a Florida or New York license, an active DEA registration is required and must be obtained and maintained by the clinician.

• Proficiency in Spanish is preferred; knowledge of additional languages is a bonus.

• Previous telehealth experience is advantageous.

• Experience in the Community Mental Health sector is preferred.
