This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Japan, +3 more countries.
β’ Review and verify assigned PDF pages for the Japanese language, clarity, actual content, and the absence of personal information.
β’ Identify and outline each significant page region, including titles, headings, paragraphs, lists, tables, figures, diagrams, captions, formulas, questions, and response fields.
β’ Assign types to components and establish reading-order indexes.
β’ Connect regions to relevant figures or tables using parent component identifiers.
β’ Accurately transcribe all text as presented, encompassing kanji, hiragana, katakana, furigana, and handwritten content.
β’ Highlight any illegible source regions.
β’ Record language, document type, source, page dimensions, and metadata related to tables, formulas, and handwriting.
β’ Review the annotation work of colleagues in its entirety as an experienced annotator.
β’ Generate human-authored training data for document AI systems.
β’ Native Japanese speaker with complete proficiency in kanji, hiragana, katakana, furigana, and various character forms.
β’ Professional background in interpretation, journalism, transcription, translation, editorial work, or other document-heavy roles.
β’ Exceptional character-level accuracy and meticulous attention to detail.
β’ Systematic application of a taxonomy across numerous pages.
β’ Comfortable working with vertical text, multi-column newspapers, exam papers, and handwritten documents.
β’ Proficiency in the Japanese language is essential; all tasks are conducted in Japanese.
β’ Must operate as an independent contractor.
β’ No requirement for H-1B or STEM OPT sponsorship/support.
β’ Preferred qualifications include: annotation, labeling, grading, bilingual evaluation, MTPE, subtitling, bilingual QA, OCR correction, post-editing, typesetting, copy-editing, proofreading, digitization, Unicode normalization, Japanese input methods, full-width/half-width forms, and kanji variant management.
β’ Fully remote position.
