Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner – PMHNP

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.

📋 Description

• Evaluate the mental and physical status of adolescent and adult patients based on their symptoms and complaints.

• Identify psychiatric disorders and mental health issues.

• Differentiate between physiologically based disorders and those that are psychologically based.

• Provide individual psychotherapy for patients dealing with chronic or acute mental health disorders.

• Order diagnostic tests, such as EKGs and laboratory work.

• Prescribe psychotropic medications, including controlled substances, while educating patients on associated risks, benefits, and side effects.

• Monitor the use of medications, side effects, and treatment outcomes.

• Assess patient behavior and their responses to treatment.

• De-escalate challenging situations with patients verbally when needed.

• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to create, implement, and evaluate treatment plans.

• Provide education to patients and their families regarding mental health conditions, treatment plans, and medications.

• Maintain thorough documentation of medical and psychological histories, assessments, diagnoses, treatment plans, prescriptions, and outcomes.

• Complete necessary administrative patient-care documentation, including FMLA and other approved forms.

• Schedule and manage follow-up appointments and ongoing treatment requirements.

• Conduct patient visits and ensure accurate documentation in the EHR.

• Adhere to HIPAA regulations, 42 CFR Part 2, national care standards, and internal policies.

• Seek clinical guidance from recommended references and Clinical or Medical Directors as necessary.

⛳️ Requirements

• Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Nurse Practitioner.

• Currently possesses a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner license (PMHNP).

• Experience in addiction and mental health fields.

• Willingness to obtain additional state licenses.

• Familiarity with Motivational Interviewing techniques.

• Commitment to partnering with clients to help them achieve their goals.

• Experience working with adults requiring general mental health or severe mental illness treatment.

• Comfortable working with patients of all ages (13 years and older).

• Knowledge of mental health diagnoses and/or dual diagnoses involving substance abuse.

• Experience in treatment planning.

• Ability to conduct and apply comprehensive assessments.

• Proficient in timely and quality documentation, with experience in EHR systems.

• Adaptable to technology, including telehealth software, and comfortable with video communication.

• Understanding of and compliance with HIPAA regulations and 42 CFR Part 2.

• Eligibility to work in the United States without the need for visa sponsorship or renewal.

• For clinicians with a Florida or New York license, active DEA registration is necessary and must be maintained by the clinician.

• Proficiency in Spanish and other languages is preferred.

• Previous experience in telehealth is preferred.

• Experience in the Community Mental Health sector is preferred.
