Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, PMHNP

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.

📋 Description

• Evaluate the mental and physical health status of adolescent and adult patients based on their symptoms and concerns.

• Identify psychiatric disorders and differentiate between physiologically- and psychologically-based conditions.

• Provide individual psychotherapy for both chronic and acute mental health issues.

• Request diagnostic procedures, including EKGs and laboratory tests.

• Prescribe psychotropic medications, including controlled substances, while educating patients on their risks, benefits, and potential side effects.

• Monitor medication adherence, side effects, and overall treatment effectiveness.

• Assess patient behaviors and responses to therapeutic interventions.

• De-escalate challenging patient situations verbally when necessary.

• Work alongside interdisciplinary team members to formulate, implement, and assess treatment plans.

• Inform patients and their families about mental health conditions, treatment strategies, and prescribed medications.

• Record patient histories, evaluations, diagnoses, treatment plans, prescriptions, and outcomes in the electronic health record (EHR).

• Complete necessary administrative documentation related to patient care, including FMLA and other authorized forms.

• Organize and schedule follow-up appointments and ongoing treatment sessions.

• Ensure practice adheres to HIPAA regulations, 42 CFR Part 2, national care standards, and internal protocols.

• Seek guidance from recommended references and clinical leadership as needed.

⛳️ Requirements

• Minimum of 2 years’ experience as a Nurse Practitioner.

• Must possess a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) license.

• Background in addiction and mental health services.

• Willingness to acquire additional state licenses as necessary.

• Experience in Motivational Interviewing techniques.

• Proven experience working with adults requiring general mental health care and/or treatment for severe mental illness (SMI).

• Comfortable working with patients across all age groups (13 years and older).

• Familiarity with mental health diagnoses and/or dual-diagnoses related to substance use disorders.

• Experience with treatment planning.

• Ability to conduct and apply comprehensive assessments effectively.

• Proficient in timely, quality documentation and experienced with EHR systems.

• Adaptable to technology, including telehealth solutions; comfortable using video communication platforms.

• Awareness of and compliance with HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2 regulations.

• Must be eligible to work in the United States without the need for visa sponsorship or renewal.

• For clinicians licensed in Florida or New York, an active DEA registration is required and must be obtained and maintained by the clinician.
