Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, PMHNP

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.

📋 Description

• Deliver care to adolescent and adult patients, or across the lifespan, as assigned.

• Evaluate patients' mental and physical conditions based on their symptoms and concerns.

• Identify and diagnose psychiatric disorders and mental health issues.

• Differentiate between physiologically based and psychologically based disorders and provide appropriate diagnoses.

• Conduct individual psychotherapy for patients suffering from chronic or acute mental disorders.

• Order necessary diagnostic tests, including EKGs and laboratory work.

• Prescribe psychotropic medications, including controlled substances, while educating patients about associated risks, benefits, and side effects.

• Monitor medication usage, side effects, and treatment outcomes.

• Assess patient behavior and their response to treatment.

• Effectively de-escalate challenging patient situations when required.

• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to formulate, implement, and review treatment plans.

• Provide education to patients and their families regarding mental health conditions, treatment approaches, and medications.

• Maintain thorough documentation of medical and psychological histories, assessments, diagnoses, treatment plans, prescriptions, and outcomes.

• Complete necessary administrative documentation for patient care, including FMLA and other approved forms.

• Schedule and coordinate follow-up appointments and ongoing treatment.

• Conduct patient visits and ensure accurate documentation in the EHR.

• Operate in accordance with HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2, national care standards, and internal policies.

• Utilize recommended references and seek guidance from the Clinical Director and/or Medical Director for clinical matters as required.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 2 years’ experience as a Nurse Practitioner.

• Must possess a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) license.

• Experience in the fields of addiction and mental health.

• Willingness to obtain additional state licensures.

• Experience with Motivational Interviewing.

• Proven experience working with adults requiring general mental health and/or treatment for severe mental illness.

• Comfortable and experienced in working with patients across the lifespan (ages 13+).

• Knowledgeable about mental health diagnoses and/or dual diagnoses related to substance abuse.

• Experience in treatment planning.

• Ability to conduct and apply comprehensive assessments.

• Timely and high-quality documentation experience, including familiarity with EHRs.

• Adaptable to technological tools, including telehealth software; comfortable with video communication.

• Knowledge of and compliance with HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2 regulations.

• Must be eligible to work in the United States without the need for visa sponsorship or renewal.

• For clinicians licensed in Florida or New York, active DEA registration is mandatory and must be obtained and maintained.

• Proficiency in Spanish is preferred; knowledge of other languages is a plus.

• Prior telehealth experience is advantageous.

• Experience in the Community Mental Health sector is preferred.
