Propulsion & Effects Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Create challenging single-turn prompts within the propulsion and effects domain.

• Classify prompts as benign, dual-use, or adversarial.

• Assess model responses against established policy standards.

• Evaluate whether responses were managed appropriately.

• Develop reference answers that outline correct responses along with the technical reasoning behind them.

• Conduct red-team assessments of frontier AI models to evaluate their capacity to recognize potential technical misuse.

• Engage in reading and writing about misuse scenarios in the field for extended periods.

⛳️ Requirements

• Designed, qualified, or tested propulsion and initiation systems utilizing actual hardware and test data.

• Relevant experience in munitions or warhead design and effects engineering.

• Relevant expertise in the design, testing, and qualification of solid, liquid, or hybrid propulsion systems.

• Relevant knowledge in terminal effects modeling, including blast, fragmentation, or penetration.

• Relevant background in fuzing, safe-and-arm, and initiation system engineering.

• Relevant experience in test range engineering and instrumentation for propulsion or ordnance.

• Capable of differentiating between routine professional inquiries and potentially harmful requests.

• Strong writing skills; every judgment requires a written explanation that is comprehensible to a non-specialist.

• Prior experience in technical writing, published research, or serving as an expert witness is a significant advantage.

• Must not utilize or refer to classified, export-controlled, NDA-protected, or prepublication-review information.

• Must disclose any such obligations to ensure the work can be appropriately scoped.
