This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Indonesia, +1 more country.
• Develop a comprehensive technical understanding of the forecasting methods, capabilities, and limitations of PxD's partners.
• Articulate in straightforward terms the reasons why certain forecast-related capabilities can or cannot be currently provided.
• Integrate and convey complex scientific results, encompassing forecast models, agronomic research, and MEL data.
• Create reports, presentations, and policy briefs tailored for internal stakeholders, policymakers, practitioners, and general audiences.
• Facilitate ongoing dialogue between technical/scientific partners, internal teams, and government stakeholders.
• Ensure that technical constraints and opportunities are accurately represented in program and policy discussions.
• Act as a vital technical translator within PxD's weather forecasting initiative.
• Assist in ensuring that decisions made across the initiative are based on a precise understanding of forecasting science.
• A minimum of 4–6 years of relevant professional experience.
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in a pertinent field such as physics, mathematics/statistics, computational science, engineering, or economics with a quantitative emphasis; candidates with unconventional backgrounds that blend strong quantitative training with technical or scientific experience are encouraged to apply.
• Solid foundational knowledge in quantitative and computational methods.
• Capability to engage critically and constructively with forecast modeling scientists.
• Familiarity with ensemble modeling, probabilistic forecasting, forecast skill metrics, and model uncertainties is advantageous.
• Proficiency in Python or R is essential.
• Experience with data pipelines, cloud-based workflows, or geospatial data tools such as xarray, netCDF, or GIS is highly preferred.
• Experience in working with or interpreting outputs from AI/ML-based models is strongly preferred.
• Ability to convert technical products and probabilistic or uncertain findings into decision-relevant information for non-specialist audiences.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English.
• Fluency in Hindi is preferred.
• Strong organizational abilities and remarkable attention to detail.
• Capability to manage multiple workstreams and projects concurrently.
• Familiarity with climate adaptation, digital agriculture, and experimental economics is highly desired.
• Ability to work independently.
