Product Owner

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Nebraska.

📋 Description

• Oversee the coordination of product development and release scheduling.

• Ensure the successful launch of both new and existing products.

• Assist with state reporting within a student information system.

• Collaborate with state education agencies to interpret reporting requirements, data specifications, interoperability standards, and compliance timelines.

• Develop use cases, requirements, estimates, and user stories in partnership with agile development teams.

• Monitor updates to reporting requirements, data standards, and submission timelines; evaluate their impact and prioritize tasks accordingly.

• Work together on data interoperability solutions, which include data mapping, validation rules, and interactions with external systems.

• Maintain relationships with contacts in state agencies and actively participate in workgroups, technical discussions, and specification assessments.

• Document release notes and oversee analytics related to the customer journey.

• Validate user experience mocks and early-stage prototypes with clients.

• Ensure that solutions align with market expectations.

• Provide content for sales, user training, and documentation resources.

• Revise client documentation, release notes, and roadmaps as necessary.

• Engage directly with clients and manage a feedback tool to capture customer insights.

⛳️ Requirements

• A bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience is required.

• At least 1 year of relevant experience or existing product knowledge is needed.

• Experience in K-12 education data, state reporting, or student information systems is preferred.

• Familiarity with education data interoperability standards and frameworks (e.g., Ed-Fi, SIF, OneRoster, CEDS) or similar experience with structured data exchange (APIs, file-based submissions, data schemas) is preferred.

• Capability to prioritize and manage multiple simultaneous projects.

• Ability to quickly adapt to new requirements, situations, programs, and services.

• Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical specifications and translating them into clear development requirements.

• Comfort with data, including understanding data elements, relationships, and quality/validation concepts.

• Effective communication skills with both technical and non-technical audiences.

• Strong attention to detail and ability to work under externally imposed deadlines.
