This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Germany.
• Lead and cultivate the Product Design team.
• Oversee product designers, design engineers, and user researchers at various seniority levels.
• Conduct regular one-on-one meetings and mentor team members.
• Take ownership of evidence-based performance evaluations and deliver constructive feedback.
• Enhance the Product Design career progression framework.
• Recruit exceptional designers and diversify team backgrounds and viewpoints.
• Establish and uphold standards in problem framing, user comprehension, interaction design, information architecture, and visual craftsmanship.
• Organize design critiques and reviews that contribute to work improvement.
• Foster designers' judgment and independence.
• Maintain a comprehensive perspective of the product experience and tackle UX fragmentation.
• Collaborate with Product and Engineering leadership on problem identification and product strategy.
• Enhance critique, teamwork, decision-making, and knowledge-sharing processes.
• Report to the VP of Product until the Head of Design is appointed.
• Occasionally perform exploratory or gap-filling design tasks outside the squads.
• Engage in the hiring process, which includes candidate presentations, live critiques, coaching, and reference checks.
• Over 3 years of experience managing product designers in a product-driven technology company.
• Managed a team consisting of five or more individuals.
• Demonstrated experience with one-on-ones, evidence-based performance reviews, difficult feedback discussions, and performance management.
• Developed or enhanced a career progression framework for designers.
• Experience in coaching and mentoring designers and facilitating effective critiques.
• Strong design skills, aesthetic sense, and judgment.
• Experience in hiring designers.
• Hands-on experience with AI tools and a well-informed perspective on AI-driven products.
• Nice to have: experience with B2B SaaS, developer tools, workflow automation, or similarly technical products.
• Nice to have: a curiosity about APIs, webhooks, data structures, and workflow execution.
• Nice to have: experience designing for developers or technical operators.
• Nice to have: systems thinking, influence without authority, team scaling, remote teams, open-source involvement, and inclusive hiring practices.
• Proficiency in English as it is the company language.
