This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Pennsylvania.
• Oversee the development, implementation, deployment, and ongoing enhancement of the company's Process Safety Management and Risk Management initiatives.
• Set corporate standards for process safety, establish procedures, governance processes, and define performance expectations.
• Ensure that process safety initiatives are in line with regulatory mandates, industry best practices, and corporate goals.
• Serve as the main technical resource for process safety issues across North America operations.
• Guarantee compliance with OSHA PSM, EPA RMP, NFPA standards, hazardous materials regulations, and other relevant requirements.
• Analyze regulatory updates and convert requirements into practical compliance programs.
• Conduct compliance evaluations and pinpoint opportunities for risk mitigation and program improvements.
• Facilitate interactions with regulatory bodies, insurance agents, and external auditors.
• Plan, coordinate, and document Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs) including HAZOP, What-If, Checklist, FMEA, LOPA, and other risk assessment techniques.
• Lead cross-functional teams to identify potential process hazards, assess safeguards, and suggest measures for risk reduction.
• Monitor and confirm the completion of PHA recommendations and corrective actions.
• Assist with facility siting assessments, chemical hazard evaluations, and initiatives aimed at major accident prevention.
• Direct and uphold formal Management of Change (MOC) processes for equipment, technology, procedures, chemicals, and organizational changes.
• Assess modifications and ensure necessary safeguards are in place before operations commence.
• Lead or assist in the investigation of process safety incidents, near-misses, releases, fires, explosions, and significant operational events.
• Employ root cause analysis techniques and guarantee that corrective actions are executed and verified.
• Disseminate lessons learned throughout the organization to avert future occurrences.
• Collaborate with Engineering and Maintenance teams on mechanical integrity programs, inspection strategies, risk-based inspections, and reliability initiatives.
• Oversee process safety for facility expansions, process changes, new technologies, capital projects, and new product launches.
• Execute design reviews and hazard assessments; engage in Pre-Startup Safety Reviews (PSSR) and startup readiness assessments.
• Conduct process safety audits, compliance evaluations, gap analyses, and site assessments.
• Track corrective action completion and develop and monitor process safety KPIs.
• Assist in emergency response planning, crisis management, drills, exercises, and readiness for major incidents.
• Provide technical support during safety emergencies when necessary.
• Create and deliver process safety training for leadership, engineers, operators, maintenance staff, and EHS professionals.
• Foster a proactive process safety culture, mentor facility teams, and establish competency and knowledge-sharing programs.
• A Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Occupational Health & Safety, Industrial Engineering, or a closely related technical field is preferred.
• Certification as a Safety Professional (CSP) is preferred.
• Certification as a Process Safety Professional (CCPSC) is preferred.
• Professional Engineer (PE) designation is preferred.
• Certification or training in Incident Investigation or Root Cause Analysis is preferred.
• A minimum of 5–8 years of progressive experience in EHS and/or Process Safety within sectors such as chemical manufacturing, life sciences, specialty chemicals, pharmaceuticals, industrial manufacturing, oil & gas, or other high-hazard industries.
• Proven experience in managing OSHA Process Safety Management and EPA Risk Management Program covered processes.
• Experience in facilitating Process Hazard Analyses (PHA) and HAZOP studies.
• Experience leading Management of Change (MOC) programs and incident investigations.
• Preferred experience supporting multiple facilities and geographically dispersed operations.
• Preferred experience working in a corporate or regional process safety function.
• Expert understanding of OSHA Process Safety Management (29 CFR 1910.119).
• Strong knowledge of EPA Risk Management Program (40 CFR Part 68).
• Familiarity with CCPS risk-based process safety principles and methodologies.
• Knowledge of NFPA standards, hazardous materials management, fire protection systems, and principles of process safety engineering.
• Proficient in HAZOP, What-If Analysis, FMEA, LOPA, Bow-Tie Analysis, and Root Cause Analysis methodologies.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, P&IDs, process flow diagrams, and technical specifications.
• Strong project management and organizational abilities.
• Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Capacity to influence stakeholders and drive change without direct authority.
• Proficient in written, verbal, and presentation communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities across various facilities simultaneously.
• Strong facilitation and leadership capabilities for cross-functional teams.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and process safety or EHS management systems.
• Ability to work independently in a remote setting while maintaining collaboration and engagement.
