Principal Systems Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia.

📋 Description

• Lead a diverse engineering team in the development of advanced multi-functional RF, processing, networking, and/or data storage units for space applications.

• Oversee the systems engineering process, which includes systems analysis and trade studies, technical baseline management, and verification and validation of requirements.

• Serve as the technical champion, representative, and primary point of contact for the program.

• Prepare and deliver presentations at significant internal and external customer design reviews.

• Provide technical expertise for Research & Development and new product initiatives.

• Assist with proposal efforts for new business opportunities.

• Collaborate with program managers and chief engineers to ensure effective program execution.

• Lead program teams in resolving complex issues using a comprehensive systems engineering approach.

• Travel to corporate headquarters in Fairfax, Virginia as required, up to 25% of the time.

• Perform additional assigned tasks.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.

• A minimum of 12 years of relevant experience with a bachelor's degree, or 10 years with a master's degree.

• Proven experience in leading the development and delivery of complex aerospace or spaceflight hardware from concept through to qualification, production, and customer delivery.

• Significant accomplishments in one or more engineering or scientific domains, with fluency across multiple relevant technical or scientific areas.

• Expertise in applying systems engineering methodologies to product design and development.

• Capability to balance technical performance with program cost and scheduling objectives.

• Strong organizational and communication skills.

• Preferred: Master's degree in a STEM field.

• Experience with software-defined systems and the product development lifecycle in the space industry.

• Familiarity with high-reliability, high-survivability, and/or applications in space environments.

• Background in complex electronics product design, including PCBAs, mechanical structures, mission software, and FPGA firmware.

• Experience with Xilinx devices, including Zynq UltraScale+ or Versal architecture.

• Knowledge of VPX standards, VITA 46, and VITA 65.

• Experience in implementing embedded hardware.

• Proficient in schematic capture, PCB layout and routing, high-speed data design, mixed-signal analysis/design, and signal integrity analysis.

• Background in signal processing and/or algorithm development.

• Familiarity with CAD tools such as PSpice, LTspice, Altium, SOLIDWORKS, and Keysight ADS.

• Experience with systems engineering tools such as STK, MATLAB Simulink, requirements management/databases, and Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE).

• Understanding of one or more OSI model levels and networking protocols.
