Principal Substation Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Lead or assist with utility and power substation projects and client engagements.

• Create substation layout designs, which include plans, elevations, yard layouts, grounding systems, raceways, control building layouts, cable lists, and material lists.

• Develop one-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, auxiliary AC and DC power systems, DC schematics, SCADA and communication systems, relay panel layouts, equipment wiring, and cable schedules for substations.

• Prepare calculations and reports, presenting these findings to clients.

• Draft equipment specifications for substation equipment, components, and construction activities.

• Oversee the technical, financial, and scheduling dimensions of substation projects.

• Function as project manager, client manager, or capture/proposal manager as required.

• Cultivate and manage skills, resources, and expertise for strategic services, partnerships, programs, and projects.

• Collaborate across teams to pursue regional and national power substation projects.

• Conduct QA/QC reviews.

• Mentor or lead engineers and other technical specialists.

• Foster and maintain client relationships across various disciplines and offices.

• Prepare proposals, bids, reports, and presentations.


⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.

• Possession of a Professional Engineer License.

• Over 15 years of progressive experience in design, engineering, and project management within the power and utility sector.

• Interest in or direct experience within the consulting engineering field.

• Proven proficiency with project management software and tools, such as Microsoft Project or similar, for scope, schedule, and budget oversight.

• Design experience in high-voltage substation and distribution projects.

• Experience in creating quality technical solutions and executing major power delivery projects.

• A strong commitment to enhancing business performance, continuous improvement, and best practices.

• An advanced degree is strongly preferred.

• Familiarity with AutoCAD, MicroStation, or Inventor is preferred.
