Principal Software Systems Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Oversee the development of customer satellite systems with an emphasis on delivering flight software.

• Manage the complete development lifecycle, from defining requirements to validation, verification, and operational phases.

• Offer autonomous solutions to intricate challenges through direct involvement or delegation under the Systems Engineering Manager.

• Maintain project and subject matter accountability and authority.

• Execute systems engineering responsibilities for satellite software systems and the legacy platform.

• Identify, break down, and manage Software and Avionics Subsystem requirements.

• Conduct system design and trade-off analyses.

• Create verification matrices and carry out buy-off/sell-off, along with test and analysis planning.

• Ensure adherence to systems engineering processes and management of requirements traces/RVTMs.

• Collaborate with both internal and external stakeholders to fulfill technical specifications.

• Diagnose and resolve flight software anomalies.

• Engage in cross-functional engineering and integration planning and implementation.

• Assist in the development of the spacecraft product roadmap, including design modifications, timelines, and budget targets.

• Aid in customizing spacecraft to meet specific customer mission requirements.

• Develop, sustain, and enhance spacecraft products.

• Encourage cost efficiency by reusing designs and manufacturing infrastructure from the heritage platform.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) or related scientific disciplines.

• At least 15 years of experience with a bachelor's degree, or 12 years with a master's degree.

• Demonstrated history of working with aerospace software systems, from initial conceptual designs and trade-offs to detailed design, development, integration, testing, deployment, and operations.

• Proven experience leading multidisciplinary teams to address challenges.

• Understanding of space mission architectures that extend beyond the satellite platform, including launch, flight operations, mission CONOPS, and user interfaces.

• Expertise in systems architecture, requirements definition and decomposition, as well as requirements verification and validation, such as Requirements Verification and Traceability Matrices.

• Familiarity with Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) tools and methodologies.

• Proficient in requirements management tools (e.g., DOORS or similar).

• Experience in leading and/or conducting analyses for affordability, safety, reliability, maintainability, testability, human systems integration, survivability, vulnerability, susceptibility, system security, regulatory compliance, certification, product assurance, or other specialized engineering fields.
